Can a couple go to Thailand on a multiple-entry visa, then apply for a retirement visa before it expires? Would that be doable? Also, how long does one have to stay in another country before re-entering Thailand on the multiple-entry visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, a couple can apply for a NON-O retirement visa while in Thailand on a multiple-entry visa before it expires as long as they meet the requirements. There is no strict requirement for how long one must stay out of the country before re-entering on a multiple-entry visa; you can leave and return almost immediately. However, keep in mind that with a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV), one must leave the country every 60-90 days.

There is no limit about how long you have to stay out of Thailand, you can go and come back after lunch.
With Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV), you must leave the country every 60-90 days. My last trip, I went to Cambodia just long enough to get my passport stamped, I was not there more than 15 minutes.

If you apply for the non o 90 day visa in your home country it also makes it easier to open a bank account in Thailand.

Or you just apply for a non-O 90 days retirement visa in your home country and enter Thailand after settling bankaccounts etc. you can apply for extension of stay after 2 months after you meet the reqirements for bank account

As long as they meet the requirements they can apply for a non-O retirement visa.
There's no requirement to be out of the country any amount of time.
you are confused. There is no 90 day multi-entry visa. The multi-entry tourist visa is valid for 6 months, not 90 days. You are stamped into Thailand for 60 days on each entry, and you can extend each entry for 30 more days if you want. You can apply for a retirement visa extension as soon as you have a Thai bank account and meet the financial requirement.
You're right, I am confused ๐ I was going to ask about the 90 day tourist visa & mixed it all up with the ME 6 month visa. Brain needs a reset ๐ง ๐คฏ๐
