Question: we're going to apply for the METV and try to stretch it out to 9 mo. But after that, if we wanted to continue to tour in Thailand to make it a year away from home or longer, could we just leave and return for extra 60 days or? Advice greatly appreciated 😊

I know that to apply for another METV we'd have to do this from our home country and this would be quite expensive. Its my hubby and I and our two kids.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to apply for the METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) for their family and is inquiring about the possibility of extending their stay in Thailand for up to a year by leaving and returning. They are aware that applying for another METV must be done from their home country. Comments suggest that exiting Thailand after the METV expires may allow re-entry with a 30-day Visa Exempt Entry, extendable by another 30 days at a local Immigration Office, or by obtaining a Single Entry Tourist Visa (valid for 60 days) at a Thai Consulate.

Australia still allows non-residents to obtain METV, if that’s a cheaper travel option for you

Melanie Maddock Canberra, but you can also apply at the various consulates around Australia too, but be mindful they may have different requirements between them, download their respective tourist application forms.

Just go to the Thai embassy website in Canberra, has all the info you need

Depending on country of origin of your passport you get 30 days Visa Exempt Entry if you enter Thailand after your METV expired. You can extend these 30 days with another 30 days at a local Immigration Office, or you can visit a Thai Consulate or Embassy in neighbor country, apply for the Single Entry Tourist Visa which give you 60 days of stay and possible for Extension of Stay once with 30 days at local Immigration.

I can only advice any Thai Embassy or Consulate. As long as you met their requirements it is NO problem. But some has more requirement than others, so many foreigners like to call those with requirements a pain in the ass and not friendly.

Fab. Thanks so much. Im seeing Vietienne come up quite a bit for ease of application - we'll be based in Chiang Mai. Would you suggest Vietienne or elsewhere for the SETV? Very grateful thank you 😊
