TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-O Multiple Entry Visa allows foreigners to stay in Thailand for 90 days at a time, renewable through border runs or extensions. It is issued for various reasons, including retirement, marriage to a Thai national, or raising children in Thailand. To extend stay based on marriage, an applicant must demonstrate financial stability, either through a minimum bank balance or proof of consistent income.

, If you are applying for an extension of stay based on marriage to a thai you can meet the financial requirements two ways:
Bank 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name for 2 months prior to you applying for your extension
OR
get a notarized letter (Stat Dec) from your consulate stating you get 40K baht or more per month in income from abroad.
Extension are issued for a year at a time, but extensions based on marriage go under consideration for 30 days before you go back and get the year extension inked into your passport.
, Non-Immigrant visas of ANY type are issued two ways. As a 90 day single entry <- meaning you get stamped in for 90 days and after that you either apply for an extension of stay at the immigration office by meeting the specific requirements for your extension
OR
As a year-long, multiple entry <- meaning you get stamped in for 90 days, and when that 90 days is running out you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and stamp back into thailand for another 90 days. You do that for the whole year.

How much extension can I get on. Single Entry Visa? Do I need to show $8000 in a Thai Bank Account, or can it be Australian?

The Non-Immigrant Type O visa <- the O means 'other' is issued for a variety of reasons. Being over 50 (retirement), being married to a thai, being married to a foreigner who legally works here, raising half-thai or foreign children here, volunteering etc.
