Morning. I could do with a bit of advice. I intend to apply for the METV after I retire in October. I want to spend a few months in Thailand to see if is definitely the right place for me to retire. As much as we have the dream, reality could be a different matter. If all goes well, can I then apply for the Non O VISA whilst there on the METV, maybe on the last 60+30 days of the visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking advice on whether they can apply for a Non O visa after entering Thailand on a METV following their retirement. Several comments clarify that while you can apply for the Non O visa within the final 60-day period of the METV, banking requirements and the possibility of visa extensions may pose challenges.

You have only 60 days on that METV. It's officially not extendable another 30 days at immigration. You can apply for the 90 days Non-immigrant O visa based on retirement after 30 days, but you also need ฿800k in a thai bank account. This will probably be your most important issue.

Since when can 60 day entries on an METV not be extended anymore? That would be big news! Pity we all missed it.

A METV gives you 60 days upon each entry which also can be extended each time with additional 30 days at your local immigration. That’s why you could get up to 9 months in Thailand if you maximise a METV the right way. She can apply for a Non O retirement straight away and need 15-21 days left on her stamp depending on where she applies on a TM.86.

I came with the same thought about 21 years ago........guess I'm still thinking, but haven't left.

You probably need to get an agent to help you opening a bank account for banking the required 800K baht before you can apply for a Non O in country.

Yes, you can do this. Though you will likely have issues trying to open a bank account while on a tourist visa.

Yes I’ve read that’s an issue. I will have to use an agent I guess. If all goes to plan I intend to try to get through the visa paperwork without an agent. How hard can it be! 😂 Thanks Brandon. Your advice is always solid.
