I have a multiple entry 12 month retirement visa from Mumbai until March 2025. Can I extend this in Thailand or do I need to reapply outside of Thailand every year , 30 days before expiration?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can extend your multiple entry 12-month retirement visa within Thailand without needing to reapply outside. For a Non-OA visa, you can stay for up to two years by leaving and re-entering before the visa expires, while for a regular Non-O visa with multiple entries, you can also extend your stay by leaving and re-entering, which allows for an additional 90 days.

So the question is, do you have a Non OA, or a multiple entry Non O where you must leave every 90 days?

Thank you. So as I understand it. I can go out anytime without doing anything and as long as I am insured beyond March 2025 ,I will be get another year or up till insurance validity on re-entry. Beyond that I have to inform them every time and get a reentry permit. Unless I pay extra in advance for this. Is that about it?

a single re-entry is 1000 or 3800 for multiple, available at your immigration office or an airport with international flights such as DMK, CNX, BKK, HKT.

Yes, once your Visa is expired you need a re-entry permit either in advance from your Immigration Office or the airport when departing to maintain your status

bounce out and return on or before March 21 2025 and you'll be stamped in for a year or as long as your insurance is valid.

So if you get new insurance and re-enter on or before your Non-OA expiry date (NOT your current entry stamp date) you will get a new 12 month entry stamp

If it’s a one year Non O-A visa, you can stay for two years just by leaving and re-enter before the visa expires. You’ll get stamped in for another year if you also update your health insurance.

If you’re on a regular Non O visa with multiple entries, you can leave and re-enter before the visa expires and get stamped in for additional 90 days. Gives in other words 15 months stay in total.

For both visas you can apply for further yearly extension of stay at the immigration in Thailand.

in addition to this thorough reply any extension you buy and receive will not include re-entry privileges, you'll need to buy a single or multiple re-entry permit after your extension is inked in, and similarly for a Non OA on the following free year stamp after the visa expires.

Yes, when the visas is expired and your on permission or extension to stay you’ll need to purchase re-entry permits if you’ll leave and want to re-enter. Single 1000 baht and multiple 3800 baht.
