Do I need a return or onward ticket when entering Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa?

Checked me once I didn’t have a return ticket, they took me to one side I had to book a return ticket on my phone and show them email confirmation or they said they would of sent me back to London🤣 bit stressful as the confirmation email took 2 hours to come😳
