I agree. The Thais will maintain some type of quarantine for many years to come. I expect well into 2023 now before the begrudgingly end the self-defeating quarantine.

Personally, I really don't care. I can wait to return until the entry conditions are eased back to pre-COVID.

They do when a false positive test is given. Thus requiring the transfer of the person to an affiliated hospital which then declines the COVID insurance and demands money up front. Numerous stories out there about this scam.

I agree. They will drag the current 14 day ASQ as long as they can. Also agree that the cost will remain the same for the 7 day ASQ. This is just another "dog that won't hunt" for expats like myself. I won't return until I can go straight from the airport to my condo without a Thai official standing there with his/her hand out wanting money. It's not a money issue for me. It's wanting to see how far they think they can go without totally destroying the tourism economy.
