for a moment let's hold this point as true. Just for a moment.
You do mean these "others" are Thai ppl who need English teachers?.. & they'd find any English speaking individual for that matter, difficult to grasp or comprehend. that's precisely why they're learning.
Accents can be neutralized or managed. But apt ENGLISH teaching doesn't have to be solely conformist to the native English speaking BIAS.
I understand many of the Indian folks may have funny or incomprehensible accents & bad english, but it doesn't mean all would be similar.
It's like saying all Americans have southern cowboy accents since it's popular imagery of gringos?!
you mean the native speakers like the Scots Welsh Irish Texans etc are great candidates just because they were birthed & nurtured there?
Quit the generalization please - ENGLISH LANGUAGE learning is an acquired skill irrespective of race or country of origin. Bad english teachers can hail from Native speaking land just about anywhere else, mate.
All I'm saying is the "NEED for NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER = MEANS better English Learning" is mere misinformation.
I ack caste system but what are you even getting at ?
Leaving all things same barring the nationalities, the prejudices are REAL when seeking a ENGLISH TEACHING JOB.
Sometimes it helps to step out of the skin that folks take for granted. IT'S called empathy.
Here's an assignment for you, since you're all Enthusiastic & if you bear real spirit of enquiry.
Start applying for English teaching gigs with 2 diff resumes, ONE with good ol AMERICAN IDENTITY, & another with an INDIAN identity or say Asian , or (South African Black).
Everything for the content remains same, except the NAME & nationality and probably an ASIAN or respective photo concurrent with the alleged fake nationality.
Wherever needed the content you may tweak to best emulate nationality.
See how it goes & revert..
