Pardons if this has been covered before. I hold a Non-Resident O visa, which means that (so far) I am not required to have health insurance. If I leave Thailand for a short trip and return, will I be required to purchase health insurance before re-entering? Regulations seem a bit unclear on this.

I have a theoretical question for the experts here. My (non-Thai) wife and I are here on non-resident O visas. The visa is in my name, and my wife is here as spouse.

I have recently heard that in the event of my untimely demise, my wife would have 5 days to either leave the country or else apply for a new visa in her name, with the requisite paperwork.

Is this true? If so, we will have to re-think our status at renewal time.

Recently my wife and I renewed our non-resident O retirement visas. While I had no problem getting mine renewed based on my pension, my wife did not have enough pension income to get hers renewed, and since our local account is joint they wouldn't accept that as part of her eligibility.

The immigration officer then said "your wife can renew her visa as your spouse. Just get your marriage certificate certified at your consulate." We did that, and my wife got her visa.

My question is this: why had I never heard of this way to get a visa? I never read of it or heard of it before. Was this a fluke? Or have I missed this way of getting a visa for all these years?

Sorry if this has been asked a million time before (as I'm sure it has), but I currently have a non-resident O retirement visa and I want to apply for an extension of stay. What documents are required? Anything I find online is either contradictory or else doesn't seem to apply to my situation. My current visa expires on February 26, so I can apply now... I think.
