Do you need to apply for the Non-O visa from your place of residence or can you apply while outside Thailand?

Hello all, I just have a quick question: do you have to apply for the Non O from your place of residence or do you just have to be out of Thailand? Thanks everyone! Have a great day, wherever you are.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a Non-O visa either from your place of residence through a Thai embassy or consulate before traveling, or you can convert to a Non-O visa at an immigration office in Thailand. Applying before travel simplifies the process of opening a Thai bank account, while doing it after arrival can make this task more challenging.

You can do either one. You can apply for a 90 day non-O visa through your local Thai embassy or consulate before traveling, or you can convert to the non-O visa at your immigration office inside Thailand.

If you apply for it before you travel, having a non-O visa will make opening a Thai bank account much easier. If you decide not to get it before you travel, it has become almost impossible to get a Thai bank account while a tourist. So you will likely have to use an agent to get your bank account that you will use to convert to the non-O visa inside of the country.

Hi
@Brandon ***********
, how are you? Thanks for the quick response. Perhaps I wrote my query incorrectly. I would like to know if it is possible to apply for a Non O visa from a third country that is neither my place of residence nor Thailand. It's all done online so I don't have to send my passport anywhere or present myself to the Thai Embassy. I am asking just in case, when I arrive next month, they do not accept my valid Non O visa (sent to me via email) because in the meantime, I have to renew my passport (I'll bring both to the airport). I can still get into the country and stay for a couple of months but then, I'll need to get a new Non O so, I was just wondering if I'll have to return to France or if I can go, say...to India and wait until they email it to me (usually takes the Thai Embassy in Paris 4-5 weeks). Thoughts? Thanks.

that will depend on which country you want to use. Some will allow it, some might not offer the visa, or might not offer it to non-residents of that country. You would want to check the embassy websites
