Any Americans here who applied for Covid visa extension and supplied a letter from the US Embassy? If so, did you have to visit the embassy to get the letter, or were you able to obtain it online?

I live south of Hua Hin and hoping I don't have to make a run to Bangkok for a piece of paper.

Thanks in advance..

Spent the day at Khon Kaen immigration from 830 to 3 and successfully got my under consideration stamp (US embassy letter)...power went out midday too. This office is usually pretty empty so I can't even imagine how other offices must be. Good luck everyone!

Wanted to share my experience today at MTT as I used a US Embassy letter to apply for the 30 day extension. Arrived a bit late for my 1pm appointment due to taxi driver not being able to find the facility (luckily I was able to use the pin from an earlier post to navigate, otherwise I might still be driving around). Personnel at the front check in were very helpful and directed me upstairs to the parking deck waiting area. In contrast the attendant there was flustered and would only direct me to take a seat and wait but was unable to tell me if I could check in anywhere for my online appointment.

Waited about 45 minutes until my turn came and presented;

-passport

-photo

-copy of passport info page

-copy of arrival card

-copy of arrival stamp page

-two filled out forms that I received there (gave my particulars, acknowledged the penalties for overstay, and a brief reason for my extension request)

All papers were checked, stapled together, returned to me and I was given a number to take to the office downstairs.

Waited downstairs for about 20 minutes then my papers were checked again and I paid 1900 baht. Directed to a third window where after another 10-15 minutes I received my passport back and saw the below stamp telling me I was under consideration for the extension and that I should return on the 16th of October. The last attendant was very helpful but did not speak English, though I managed to gather that I should make an online appointment and return any day around the 16th but no later than the 18th. Sounded strange but I left telling him I would be back on the 16th as stamped.

Thanks to everyone in this group, all the information here made a confusing situation easy to navigate.

Braved the rain for a TR60 COVID 30 day extensions appointment at Muang Thong Thani. Documents in hand including US Embassy letter. Went to wrong building. Enjoyed the walk. Took advantage of the elevator since I have walking stick.

On 3rd floor, they questioned where the embassy letter came from snail or e-mail ( it's from email ). Not a problem but they asked twice. Next empty almost room for actual submission to the immigration officer. Then a 5 minute wait. And then passport back complete with under consideration stamp (see picture). It's the 15th today, and they want to see me back on the 29th.

* Ton of taxis and motorsais and a dog outside

* I had an appointment for 3:40pm but turned up early and was drinking coffee back in town by 3:40pm :-)

* The area and most rooms are a ghost town. Could kick a football in there. Where is everyone? I'm thinking a huge rush next week.

Nice day out. Thank you for this group's help, ever thankful.

So just to ask, my Non Imm B valid til March 2021, need to leave for personal reasons but have a letter from US embassy, if I get an extension stamp based on that, will it refresh the status “stamp” so I can renew my wp expiring Nov 15th prior to leaving (say I take the extra days to do it since they are relaxing the 30- day rules) normally I’m a 90-day bouncer, too hard for year extension at the moment.

Notes from the field - 30 day extension.

Today went to Bangkok Immigration at Muang Thong Thani to see about the 30 day extension. I had letter from US embassy with me.

It went as others described. I received a stamp to come back on the 16th of September. So based on other reports it seems that they are requesting to return in 14 days time for the final decision.

One thing they did ask for was to see the actual email evidence with the embassy letter which i was able to pull up on my phone quickly.

The process was quick and painless. You need your embassy letter, copies of passport pages and departure card along with three forms to fill out which you get from the same office and can fill out in a few minutes.

As always the staff at the immigration office were friendly and courteous.

I saw a few people show up without the embassy letter and were curtly told to come back with it. So it seems to be a mandatory thing. One guy from France was dressed down and told in no uncertain terms that there is no way he could apply for the extension without it.

Other than that - a positive experience and hope in 2 weeks time I will be granted the extension.

UPDATE: On March 23, Krabi Immigration told my attorney that they would not accept the letter described below from the U.S. Embassy, and that I should bring in a letter that has my name on it. I am going to have to try something else, unless the embassy starts issuing individualized letters.

Original post: Ijust received a generic covid-19 letter from the American Consular Section (ACS). The email they sent with the letter included the following cautions:

"Attached is a standard letter from the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok requesting the Royal Thai Government's (RTG) Bureau of Immigration issue an extension of stay. Some U.S. citizens have reported successfully obtaining an extension of stay by showing this letter and copies of their email correspondence with the Embassy.

At any given time, there are over 100,000 U.S. citizens in Thailand on tourists visas. U.S. Embassy Bangkok and Consulate General Chiang Mai do not currently have the capacity to produce original and personalized letters. We continue to raise this issue with the RTG, and we ask your patience as we discuss this requirement."

If you need this letter you can send an email to:
