TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion reveals that many Americans are unsure about successfully using the US Embassy letter to obtain a 30-day extension for their stay in Thailand. Most reports indicate that while some individuals received a hard stamp until September 26, many immigration offices are advising applicants to wait until closer to the expiration of the amnesty period to apply. Several members are sharing their experiences and differing outcomes at various immigration offices, indicating a lack of consistency in processing extensions.

How do we do the work permit? That’s the problem, Labour department is not issuing the WP saying there is no exit from the country
Tod *********
Sadly
@Ritesh *******
, that is NOT a thai VISA question and is between you and the ministry of labor and your employer :(

Getting off no stamp amnesty and on to the hard stamp is the first step to doing it though.

I'm staying in pattaya a few days so I tried Chonburi Immigration. Had to insist to two 4 different employees that I had a reason to be there. Eventually what seemed like a supervisor took over and gave me a list to get the 30 day extension. They would not provide the until 26th stamp.

usually office by office. That's why people post actual experiences here, photos of papers, stamps and which office they saw.

so they gave you the stamp to the 26th of Sept taking you off no stamp amnesty and then told you come back with the embassy letter closer to that date to apply for the 30 day can't travel due to covid extension? Today's stamp was free right?

If you don't mind me asking
@Ju***
what was the extension stamp above it for? The one they issued on April 10th 2020?
Julie ********************
@Tod ********
I’m on Non O Volunteer visa, so that was my last official extension.

@Ju***

@Tod ********
I’m not sure if this Thai letter from the government helped my case. My sponsor was doing a lot of explaining..

I was told this was issued by immigration but is not widely circulated..

I went to Chaengwattana this morning with our local sponsor. We brought the US Embassy letter & another letter brought by my sponsor, I’ll send a snapshot later. We got a hard stamp for the 26th of August. We were told to come back nearing that date & use the extension given by US Embassy. We also went to Muang Thong Thani for our 90 days report & got that too..

You can get that letter by going to

and clicking on "entry and exit requirements". It'll lead to a Google Form that you'll fill out; just follow the instructions.

did you see the letter I posted above from the American embassy?
Austin *******
@Julie *******************
how did you get that letter from the US embassy? They are not issuing those anymore
Julie ********************
@Austin ******
did you send an email.
Austin *******
@Julie *******************
Not yet. My question was, what reasons are they issuing these for?
Julie ********************
@Austin ******
so we can stay longer if need be.
Austin *******
@Julie *******************
I get that part. But to stay longer there has to be a good reason. I am asking about why you have to stay longer. You didn't understand my question the first 2 times so nevermind
Bassam *********
@Austin ******
to Be able to stay longer, that Is what I desire, cause I do not want to go back to USA.
Austin *******
@Bassam ********
Nobody wants to go back to the US. I find out very hard to believe that the embassy will grant you a letter asking for an extension because you simply "don't want to go back".
Benjamin ******
@Austin ******
I posted the link above; fill it out and give the reason why you don't want to return back to the States. If they approve it, great. If no, then they don't
Austin *******
@Benjamin *****
I saw the link and I thanked you for it.
Benjamin ******
@Bassam ********
Remember though, I have not seen *ANYONE* get a stamp that lets a person stay until mid-October, all what I've seen is "Under Consideration" stamps.

My advice is to get an extension of stay if you qualify for one.
Bassam *********
@Austin ******
here’s my letter
Austin *******
@Bassam ********
Thanks. May I ask, what is your reason for getting the extension letter? Is it because it is hard to book a flight, or did you have a better reason? Thanks again.
Bassam *********
@Austin ******
yes they are issuing the letter. I got one too. Go to the embassy’s website (Bangkok ACS) and fill out the form. You’ll receive it in less than 48 hours
Tod *********
What you have to realize is there are two completely different things going on. ONE is getting OFF the no stamp amnesty and getting a hard stamp until the 26th so you can apply for an in country Non-Imm visa <- doing that is FREE

The other is using the embassy letter that says you can't travel after the 26th of Sept so you can apply for the 30 day embassy request extension. <- doing that is 1900baht and you get a 14 day under consideration stamp dated from the date you apply for the 30 day extension (meaning you're just wasting the extension applying now and should wait until closer to amnesty running out)

They are NOT the same things not at all
Ketrina ********
@Tod ********
: I wish that last part had been communicated to me by someone, ANYONE. Three wasted trips to Muang Thong Thani, 1,900 baht down the drain and no extension beyond the amnesty is gonna SUUUUUUUUUUCK.

@Tod ********
yes that was already clear. There are two parts here
Tod *********
The ONLY people who I have seen (in Bangkok) go from the no stamp amnesty to the "hard stamp" stay until amnesty is over until the 26th were people who had paperwork in hand to apply for an in country Non-Immigrant visa of some type.
David ************
I believe a one “Ketrina Hoskin” who is a member of this group posted yesterday that she is attempting to obtain a hard stamp today with this letter. I don’t believe She has posted anything yet today.
Ketrina ********
@David ***********
@Keef *******
: I wasn’t denied. Not yet anyway. I got an “application under consideration” stamp with 14 September date to return.
Keef ********
@David ***********
nope waiting to see that report.
David ************
@Keef *******
my guess is she was denied due to no substation of obtaining a valid long or valid term visa. Anyway she’s been silent, so I would guess she failed in her attempt. Wish she reported her experience to the group but seems not. Anyway have a nice evening

@David ***********
same assumption myself mate. Let's see what happens this is new territory.

ATTENTION MEMBERS: this thread is NOT about "can I go back to the USA or not" :( so STOP saying they can leave. This thread is about if anyone has used the ACS embassy letter to get an "unable to travel due to covid 19" 30 day extension since they reversed their "we're not issuing the letter" stance and started doing it again.
Tod *********
At this time there are almost no reports of successful applicants using the US embassy letter to get a 30 day extension. That's because most offices are just sending people with it away saying to apply closer to amnesty running out.

Believe me I KNOW that the amnesty states that extensions will be dated from the 27th of Sept but offices are dating them effective the date you apply so it's not making sense for anyone to apply NOW seeing as a 30 day extension dated to day would only take you until the end of Sept (a few days after amnesty runs out).

I think you're gonna hafta wait some and apply closer to amnesty running out OR at least that's what it seems like
