Hello, I have a quick question that I am finding difficult to find the answer to. I've sent some emails and called some phone numbers with no success so far.

I am moving to another country that is not my home country in October and they require a national background check from Thailand since I have lived here for over 6 months in the past 5 years. One of the required documents is a, "Letter from the Embassy for Request check to objectives". Does anyone know what this means? Do I need a letter from the Embassy of the country I will be working in or the Thailand embassy? Here is a picture of the requirments I am looking at from the Police Clearence Service Center information page.

If anyone has had to do this before I would love some insight on how the process works, how long it can take and things I should be aware of.

Thank you in advance!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on a requirement for a national background check from Thailand, specifically about a letter needed from an embassy. Comments suggest that this letter is likely needed from the embassy of the country where they will be moving to, confirming the need for the police clearance from Thailand. Several responders provide insights on the process, the required documents, and their experiences obtaining police clearance, noting it typically involves visiting a police station in Thailand, filling out a form, and having necessary identification. They mention additional steps such as requesting a confirmation letter from the new employer.

What country are you moving to? I have never encountered anything like this unless you are applying for a residency or setting up a self employed business to another country but the police clearance should come from your home country not Thailand. If you are just simply relocating, declare your home country instead.

I went with my wife who is a Thai National to get a police clearance certificate for a job in the UK. They required me to write a letter with the reason for the check. So I am fairly sure they will want a letter from the embassy of the country you are going to work in confirming the need for the check. You could always call the embassy to ask them. But alternatively take the letter from your new employer that tells you why you need the police clearance certificate from Thailand. That may work. If it does not the police clearance office will explain what you do need. It took 2 weeks for ours to arrive by post. Good luck.

Police clearance check is very easy. Police Station over the road from Central Mall /Siam Paragon. Walk in as about the Police check it's a door on the left up the alley. Very friendly and they help.

Passport and anything else you have like yellow book. Fill in the form. And they will tell you the rest.

Not difficult.

They do take a week or so to post I believe. Might be worth asking them to send to the employer directly.

I am surprised that they would request this info for a non resident of Thailand. I think it might be that you listed the wrong country of residence. I always list my residence as the USA, as I am here on tourist visa and my place of residence is the USA and will always be even I have little intent to live there in the future.

Are you living in Thailand currently?

I read this as if you were a resident of Thailand for marriage, work, education ...actually became a resident. Assuming you were in Thailand for 6 months for tourism purposes? that does not mean you were a resident of Thailand.

I was/am working here. It's not a requirement for Thailand buy another country that I'm moving to work in. They just need to make sure I have no criminal record here and in my home country.

Sorry
@Ky**
, not 100% sure, but apparently you need a background check certificate from Thailand for a move to another country. You have to do this by all requirements mentioned in y'r picture.

That "letter from the Embassy........" is I think a letter for wat reason you need that Thai background check certificate. Because there are ofcourse no Thai Embassies in Thailand almost sure it has to be a letter from y'r own country Embassy (or government ?). Think they presume people are still in Thailand, requesting this.

yes, I am still in the country but not for much longer. There is another section for those outside the country that has a different list of requirements.

I'm no expert, but another Asian country I lived in required a letter from the Embassy/Consulate of the country I was moving too certifying the reason for the police clearance. I think this is what Thailand is getting at. Maybe others can clarify?
