What format should a support letter from my embassy take for my ED visa in Thailand?

Hello everyone,

I am supposed to start an internship/training program next week and they told me from immigration that they cannot accept my ED visa unless I also provide a support letter from my embassy. Does anyone have a template for this kind of letter that you maybe requested before that I can show to my embassy?

Thank you so much in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat is seeking a template for a support letter from their embassy to present to immigration for their ED visa required for an upcoming internship. Commenters suggest that such letters typically confirm current student status, especially if the internship is not through a Thai university, and advise on the necessity of a work permit if the individual isn't a student.

Normally internships and training programs are scheduled through the university you are currently attending, and if it is not a Thai university, then it would be the one in your home country. You can't just enter an internship or a training program without being enrolled in a university, as that is part of your advanced class schedules, usually in your last year of a four year degree. This could very well be what they want in a letter from your embassy, that you are currently a student. If you are not currently a student then you would need a work permit, and a type B work visa extension.

The thing is that I asked them then and they said they don’t have an example, and when I call, literally no one picks up

Yes I can, they told me it’s all good if I also provide that letter

Anyway, can people already switch to ED visa while they are in Thailand? I believe it wasn't like that during Covid time if I'm not mistaken.

If you need a letter to present to the immigration office, I think you should ask the office what kind of message should be in that letter.

Did you ask the Thai Consulate what they expect for the "support letter"?

@Benjamin *****
yes I asked for a template but they said they don’t have one

So you didn't actually ask them what they expect for that letter? My opinion is to contact the consulate and ask them what should be on the contents of the letter

Consulate better? Or just call at the immigration office?

The right for you to enter Thailand is from the local Thai consulate. They would be the one to contact.

The immigration office and the consulates do not communicate with each other what-so-ever.
