TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the uncertainty of whether Thailand will extend the 45-day visa exemption currently in place. Many commenters suggest that no significant changes are expected due to the recent dissolution of the government and upcoming elections, which could delay any announcements. There's speculation about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) potentially delaying the decision until the end of March, as has been customary in the past. Some participants in the discussion believe that extending the visa to 60 days could be beneficial for tourism, but others express skepticism about the likelihood of such an extension occurring.

No official announcement yet as to whether they will extend it.

I hope so. It’s making it hard to plan my future movements. They would be getting 15 days more money out of me if they did. If not my money heads to Indo early.
You can extend it once to get the extra 15 days. But it does cost 1900 baht. It's annoying they didn't extend it. Our trip was planned around it now we have to pay to extend.

Ideally, Thailand should extend the

days to 90 days for everyone with one reporting In-between. Just so they know where the said foreigner is residing and what they are upto. It will be good for the country in the long run and foreigners who want to stay longer too. Win win. There's no point in making it so tough for genuinely good foreigners spending money, bringing in money, and being in Thailand for longer duration to go out come in again and all that.
Nonsense. Tourism is Thailand's cash cow. No way they'll do any of this, especially now that Vietnam is about to make the e-visa valid for 90 days, single and multiple entry and extend the visa waiver for eligible nationalities to 45 days from the present 15
Plenty of rumours but nothing official (except the current date of 1-Apr to revert to 30 days)

I’ll join in the bet. ฿100 they will keep the program going.

I think they should take the idea a bit further: increase duration the further out of season it is. Peak season you get a month; arrivals now, two months; mid year, three. Must be value to the country in keeping infrastructure and staff busy.
in gonna take that bet. I ‘think’ if it was going to happen, it would already be proudly announced. Clearly there is some resistance to it at high levels. I think it absolutely should be extended. And should actually be 60 days, not 45. But I’m guessing TAT is not winning the battle
Agreed. If it was going to be extended it would have been announced by now in order for people to make forward planning. The TAT made a big noise about it in January and rumours were spreading like wildfire, and it suddenly died a quiet death. The Tourism minister does not have the clout of the Immigration Minister or the Foreign Minister so he was probably told to "STFU". Sixty days would be excellent, but the sales of tourist visas would be affected and the government wouldn't like that. Of course, they could always give 60 days and start charging 4000 baht for extensions? 😆
Probably won't happen. What many don't realise it's not an immigration office issue. It comes under MFA, which is a totally different ministry. The MFA generally makes announcements in a timely manner, as opposed to the Royal Thai Police, who make announcements at the last minute

As usual it will be announced on the 31st March at some ridiculous hour ..
