Interested to hear whether the group think the 90 day visa exempt policy will, in fact, be extended to Australians, US & UK citizens.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is a strong skepticism among the group regarding the potential extension of the 90-day visa exemption policy to citizens of Australia, the US, and the UK. Many comments reflect the belief that such changes are unlikely, citing ongoing discussions by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) that have not yet resulted in outcomes beneficial to foreign tourists. Concerns were raised about the economic implications of losing visa fee revenue, and the historical context shows repeated discussions on this topic with no tangible results. Responses vary but lean towards disbelief that the policy will change soon.

no it will not, because that would cost a lot of jobs at immigration

Maybe . . . πŸ€” Maybe not

How many visa exempt days do the above-mentioned countries give to Thai nationals?πŸ˜‚

I can get a TR visa giving me 60 + 30 for much less than the Elite. And that is a tourist visa in case you hadn't noticed. And the Thai Government knows the longer farangs are in the country, the more they spend. Simple really.

oh yess, they are The Saviors of Thai economy!πŸ˜…

If you need a visa exempt for 3 months, you are barely a tourist - get the Elite visa then.

how many million Thai tourists would travel to each of Australia, the UK and the EU countries and are those countries reliant on tourism for 20% of their GDP ?

Good point . I think the agreement with the OECD will now change things for the Thai's, I hope so. The Thai Government is applying pressure in this direction.

Good chance it will happen but when? This year, 2040??

More likely to see the 2pm to 5pm ban on alcohol sales lifted than a 90 day visa free entry

I don’t think it will to be honest

They will extend to all EU countries except Netherlands, they are too stingy to be bothered with.

Will soon!

Oh that sandbox at least was better than my two other quarantines in Thailand, but was disorganised
Bart **************
@Michael *******
they did push the Phuket Sandbox through, making promises and even commitments to businesses in Phuket before the govt had a chance to even consider it. So they were kinda forced to give them something.

But the result was a middle way with totally unacceptable conditions, e.g.: if someone in the airplane next to you tested positive for covid, then YOU could be locked up for two weeks and AT YOU OWN EXPENSE. Impossible of course, by any common standard. De facto Thailand was still closed for tourism because the conditions to come were not compatible with tourism.

Had the TAT followed a more cautious approach, Thailand could have followed the same approach as Vietnam: fully closed on one day, fully reopened on the next. Drastic manoeuvre, but at least tourists don't need to fear for such unacceptable things. It would have been the better way.

yep they call for lots and lots and never discuss with goverment first. Think its power play by TAT
Michael ********
@Andrew ******
TAT discuss lots of things and personally I think wrongly they release there statements to media before proposing to the govermeny
Graham ******
TAT were also reporting that the 45 day visa exempt temporary measure would be extended to the end of the year but it ended 31-Mar as planned.

@Michael *******
they call for a lot of things.

Tim Newton reported last week that the Thai Cabinet could be discussing this tomorrow (Tuesday

Why would they even consider it? The income from tourist visa purchase and extensions must be more than adequate to employ and pay the staff that deal with them. Without the income the staff would be redundant. Countries that have better terms, give better terms to Thai citizens, can't see that happening with the 3 you mentioned.

Quid pro quo springs to mind , so I wouldn't be holding my breath

Not unless it's at least partially reciprocated in some way that benefits Thai people

As high season is passing, who knows... been rumors a long time.

I wouldn't bet on it.

You can find articles with basically the exact same headline from every month going back about 2 years.

I wouldn't make any plans around a 90 day free entry.
