Will my illegal work in Thailand affect my DTV application from Taipei?

Hello,

I think I have seen the question here but unfortunately can’t find the thread.

I’m in Thailand right now since 2 months on a tourist visa, I’ll go to Taipei in few days to apply online for the DTV.

Could there be any doubt not to get approved as they can see I got salary but I was the last two months in the country, which mean I was working illegal in Thailand.

Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is concerned about the impact of having worked illegally in Thailand on their DTV visa application while applying from Taipei. Comments suggest that remote work isn't typically regarded as illegal work under Thai authorities, and many share experiences of similarly getting their DTV approved despite past illegal work situations. Overall, the consensus indicates that as long as documentation is correct, the chances of approval remain positive.

Don’t stress about it, if that was the case NONE of the DTV applied for by Europeans in Asia would of been approved haha

Just do soft power muay thai. I got approved from the US under remote work but if I were to do it again I would just do muay thai, so much less paperwork

It’s like 10k baht for a one month course for basically a guaranteed DTV. If 10k hurts your pockets then I don’t know what to tell you.

Please don’t do Taipei they’re incredibly strict and want 6 months of invoices from your current contract

Anonymous participant and honestly I wouldn’t worry too much about the labor laws. The embassy staff are not immigration police. They care more about the paychecks and as many contracts and invoices as you can provide. Don’t really care about where the work was done from my understanding.

Do make sure you get a letter from your company / client that certifies you are working for them though and state in the letter that the work is remote work

Anonymous participant okay!! Perfect. Provide 6 months of statements of getting paid from European company. They will ask you specifically to circle / highlight the payments from your company into your account

I changed Taipei for HoChi Ming, and my 500K will be there 15 days before applying, would it be enough? 🤔

HCM asked me for statements showing highlights of my salary being deposited, so something to consider.

Ok we are talking about different things, I have not a salary, I am the business owner, so I don't know if is better or worst 😕, in Thailand everything is possible 😂.

I understand, but I'm saying they might ask for proof of payments.

it’d not about it. I had been working legally in Thailand for 3 years. Had way more than 500k in bank. But new job and only had one paid invoice from current remote work position. Be really really really careful. They want 6 months of consistent invoices from *current* contract.

I went to Taipei mid December and got denied twice with everything in order and working now for an Austrian company. They REALLY didn’t care.

I have more than 6 months of payments, but not with 500K all the time. The company money was in my LLC,I just moved to my personal one for the DTV, ridiculous 😆

And I had all the documentation of previous work and certification letters from current international employer and previous Thai employer.

They literally told me to come back in 6 months. Such a waste of time and money for me.

Depends on what kind of work.

Workng remote is generally not seen as working in Thailand for Thai authorities.

That is one of the reasons they created DTV.

If you had a job in Thailand or got paid by a Thai company that is completely different of course.

I match all the requirements but I have the same or similar doubt because I am living here for many years already, and my family is also Thai (but I am not), so... Could I be rejected because the embassy can consider that I should get a Thai wife visa instead of a DTV ? Even if my work is not in Thailand and is 100% remote ? 🤔

Being married to a Thai should not stop you from getting DTV.

But of course you could consider yourself to get a non-o visa, depending on your situation.

Non -o is measnt to actually live in Thailand, DTV is meant to stay for longer periods.

This is the very thing the DTV is designed to address. As long as all your documents are in order, you should be fine.

Anonymous participant 986 if you worked remote and did not have any Thai clients that's no issue. I had the same situation and just got my visa last week in Taipei.

The only thing they had further questions was regarding clients.

They wanted to see 3 months of I invoices my LTD company (I'm the owner) issued to clients, the payment of said clients to my companies account and the salary I pay myself on the company account as well as on my private account

I am sure you are among hundreds, if not thousands, of people who have been working "Illegally" in Thailand before they got their DTV! 🙂
