Can I apply for a Digital Nomad Visa while on an ED Visa, and will my bank statement affect my application?

Hi everyone, I m actually on ED Visa while earning money, and I’m now planning to apply for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) as a freelancer. My concern is whether the bank statement I provide, showing earnings during my time on the ED Visa, could impact my chances of getting approved for the DTV. Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is currently on an ED visa while earning as a freelancer and is considering applying for a Digital Nomad Visa. They are concerned that their bank statements, which reflect earnings made under the ED visa, might negatively affect their DTV application. Responses from the community varied: some argued that working remotely on an ED visa is typically not illegal unless connected to a Thai business without a work permit; others emphasized that it’s crucial to be cautious when admitting past work to immigration. Ultimately, opinions suggest it’s generally permissible to apply for a DTV, but experiences may differ based on individual cases and the embassy’s stance.

Here was a guy posted yesterday who was rejected. No reason given but he had salary going into Thai bank while on Ed visa. Probably depends on the embassy and the mood of the processing officer.

Shouldnt be an issue but if worried just send them the balance page and In/Out section, so first page of statement basically. That was sufficient for Hanoi with my application

this may have changed - not sure, but however they have sent me an email saying they require 6 months bank statements and 6 months payslips - potential issue if I was on an ED and in Thailand*

It is illegal to work in Thailand unless you have a work visa.

Admitting that you were working on an Ed visa to immigration has the potential to cause problems.

But it would be interesting to know what others have experienced

I don't see why it matters.

You were not doing anything illegal or against the rules on your ED visa.

People can be in Thailand on a visa exempt stamp and do their remote computer work and it's not illegal. You don't have to be on a DTV to be able to do remote work.

But if you have been working in Thailand for a Thai business and you didn't have a work permit then there is a problem
