What options are available for my friend after accidentally losing their retirement visa in Thailand?

They stamped him in with a tourist visa....he didnt realise at the time. What Now? his retirement visa expires in November 2024. thanks for the help

Just so he knows they didn't stamp him with ANY tourist visa.. he lost the retirement extension when he stamped OUT of the country without a re-entry permit.
When he showed back up he was stamped in FREE STAMP for 60 days (not a tourist visa, but a visa exempt entry) still same process, to go to an initial 90 day Non-O for 2000baht and then 2 months later a year extension for 1900baht
Send them to their immigration office ASAP to get the list of documents, and get the process going
Good luck to them..

But in Mae Sai and Chiang Rai immigration offices they told me that they don’t issue Non O visas in country. No such thing and told me I had to go to Vientiane , where I had a lovely weekend.

He just needs to take notice of the expiry date of the tourist visa (I am assuming exemption and not visa). Then he needs to go to immigration at least 15 days before his stamp expires, use the 800k in his bank as proof for a 90 day NON O, then get a year extension of stay After that.

I didn’t think my reply to you was rude, however… you have the word Moderator under your name 🤔People can live there under a “Retirement Visa” and subsequent extensions- but still a retirement visa as stated in the post, and may never require a re entry permit. But when you decide to leave Thailand and come back you need to purchase either a single or a multi re entry permit valid for 12 months. The re entry permit is not an automatic right. If there on a retirement visa and or subsequent yearly extensions, everyone needs to have a re entry visa before you leave the country, and this is solely what the post is about. But he has the advantage to have a Thai Bankaccount.
90 day non-O Visa in country (easy, as money on the bank (hopefully).
And than extension 1 year.
If you have monthly income..... risk to be difficult but check with immigration.
