I had 2 dui (driving while intoxicated) back in 2018 (USA)…would this possibly result in a rejection for the dtv visa?
Answer summary
The conversation discusses the potential impact of having two DUIs from the USA on obtaining a DTV visa for Thailand. The responses vary, with some suggesting that DUIs are considered petty crimes and may not affect the visa application, while others express concerns about the high risk of rejection due to the applicant's history. It is advised to consult a visa agency in Thailand for expert guidance.

I hope so. We don't need people like you in Thailand. Especially you didn't learn your lesson after the first time.

If the drink-driving case has been concluded, it may not directly affect your DTV visa application. However, each case depends on its specific circumstances and the embassy’s assessment.

No. I fact you get a Thai license. The systems aren't tied together.

SincereGrape4256 I like living in Jomtien. I am the type who is on the health focused side of Pattaya. 100% alcohol drug smoke free and enjoying the sunshine health cafes and boxing gym etc. That's what I like about living here. Pattaya has a dark and light side.

To save people here without a clue trying to put you off, do a simple Google search. Convictions only really matter if they are recent and involve prison for over 12 months.

2 DUI's? I could see them not wanting to risk you driving here and possibly injuring or killing a Thai resident. The Thai govt would lose face if it was found out they knew and gave you a visa anyways

Thats just my opinion.

I would speak to a well established visa agency in Thailand. This may be a situation where you may need to pay extra for the expertise and help with your situation.

Thai agents wont have any knowledge about how an Embassy in US work.

Correct me where I am wrong. But an experienced AGENT in Thailand will have history of how DUI's have been approved/not approved for specific situations, as the agent has seen several applications. They would be able to look at the client's complete application package and be able to give some good advice or guidance about how to proceed. Example they might say "DTV may not be the best way for your circumstance, you may have to go with the Thailand Privilege Visa. What I have learned in my few business dealings in the Kingdom is that typically if you work with a reputable and influential Thai person to handle your business... it's amazing what you can get done.

it’s unlikely any agency will actually have sufficient experience in this matter as the criminal record check is a relatively new requirement for the DTV and it’ll also come down to consular discretion.

visa agents usually deal with immigration, not with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and especially not a distant embassy.

yes you sit in jail to sober up, but if you made a deal to get the DUI reduced or the state gives you a nolle prosequi it doesnt look bad on your background check.

Depending on the state, two DUIs would be classified as either a misdemeanor or a felony.

LongTimeLivingInThailand in all but one state, DUIs are misdemeanors. They do aggregate if future offenses ok but two DUIs do not make a felony without serious injury or death, or multiple DUIs in a short period.

The average DUI isn’t a huge deal but 2 only 8 years ago could be a possible issue.

LongTimeLivingInThailand yeah but person processing visa isn't going to think it's a major crime as most Thais do it weekly . I could be completely wrong tho would be surprised if visa was denied from that reason tho

I am sure a Thai embassy employee in the USA has a better sense than that
