TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of converting from a DTV visa to a Non-B visa while in Thailand is theoretically possible but involves specific steps. It's crucial to consult with your employer and the immigration office, as they both play significant roles in this conversion. While some believe the paperwork required is not overly extensive, the DTV visa's relatively new status may complicate the process. The DTV, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, would need to be canceled by the issuing embassy before a Non-B visa can be obtained.

It’s not a massive amount of paperwork. However, as it’s unusual to cancel a DTV, as the are relatively new, it’s not such a clear process.

The DTV is issued by MFA under the embassy where it was approved. The DTV needs to be cancelled by the issuing embassy, before a Non-B is issued.

It's possible in theory, but you need to check with both your employer and your immigration office. Most employers cannot or will not produce the massive amount of paperwork needed for an in-country non-B conversion. And then if your employer can/will do it, you need to check if your immigration office will support the conversion.
