Is it worth using an agent for DTV visa applications in Thailand?

Mar 20, 2025
With the number of DTV visa rejections I’ve been seeing, I’m starting to wonder—would using an agent actually be worth it? If they can help ensure all submitted documents are in order and reduce the risk of rejection, it might be a smart move. Losing 10,000 THB over a small mistake or missing paperwork would be frustrating. What do you guys think?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the value of hiring an agent for the DTV visa application process in Thailand. Many commenters believe that if applicants meet the requirements and follow instructions carefully, they can successfully apply without an agent. Others share experiences suggesting that using an agent provides additional reassurance or convenience, especially in navigating complex documentation. However, there are concerns about the necessity and cost of agents, with some participants advising against using them for a straightforward application process. Overall, opinions vary, indicating that the decision to hire an agent depends on individual circumstances and comfort with the application process.

I think you should just read some threads on this group, and it's more than enough compared to help from any agent.

This group is chock full of advice, examples and guides. If you can't find enough here to apply on your own, just pay one of the members with a successful application in your category to help you out. Don't support to expensive, scammy agents.

Vasically I see 2 types of agents 1) I would use an agency for checking my documents etc as a type of QA check. I have seen that service in the UK to 12k range. That is just me though outsourcing things for convenience etc 2). Agent who tell you they have contacts in neighbouring embassies. I would not be using the agents to arrange transport and accommodation. Supply the 500k or arrange courses. This could lead you being tied into them for years if yiu are reliant kn them for documentation in the future.
Helen ********
It's very easy to do yourself if you meet the qualifications but if you aren't sure or confident then there are different levels of agents. To get someone to help you with a course and proof of funds is expensive and can have drawbacks. To get someone to review your paperwork and just give some general advice, cheap and easy. Neither come with any guarantees though so choose wisely.

Altogether a very disappointing experience, and just adds to the general view that immigration appear to be pissed off with the MFA issuing these 5 year visas

Lastly they want the certificate of incorporation, again, and a letter saying I'm a director. Guess I sign it myself.

Participante anónimo 731 Why would you bother doing all of that if a quick trip abroad would grant you 180 new days?

Next, the want a company bank statement from their home country for at least 3 months showing income from remote working. They have no concept that much remote work can be lumpy income. Mine is contractual and one or two large payments per year, none in the last 3 months.

Went to Hue Hin immigration today to get an extension for MTV visa. Note the sub office in Blueport will not process these.

So, first issue for most holders, HH IMMIGRATION insist on 500,000 baht in a THAI bank account. As many have found out it can be most difficult to open a Thai bank account on an MTV visa!!!

More rejections of 10,000 THB DTVs = more sales of 60-80,000 THB DTVs through agents (who only get to keep a fraction). Brilliant!

You can’t apply for it in Thailand, so what use is an agent?

This is one of the easiest visas to apply if you meet requirements. It's total waste of money to hire an agent for this. Spend a couple of hours and search this group about your doubts, you'll have all answers.
Chris *********
I didn't have a problem. It's not hard.

Agents are no guarantee of approval …

An agent won’t be of much help as you have to apply outside of thailand and via the eVisa service. So they could not even use their „connections“ to the specific employee that handles your application. ;) its a very basic process. upload 4 documents. fill out some personal information. takes like 10mins… just make sure you put in the correct data…
Ric ******

Agents know which embassy is best for your route. They can recommend cost-effective soft power courses that are accepted by the respective embassy. I sometimes think Thailand creates this mess on purpose so agents stay in business.

Agents make mistakes too! I would just go through everything and double, triple check.,

To be honest, the advantages and disadvantages roughly balance each other out. I can understand anyone who does it themselves and I can understand anyone who uses an agency (price comparison provided).

Personally, I am actually very familiar with online forms and online processes, and yet I resorted to an agency that had a reputable reputation for that last bit of approval probability. The agency had experience from previous DTV applications and so I was able to align some of my documents accordingly with successful applications (at the same Thai Consulate General as mine!). For example, wording suggestions for my employer regarding the remote working activity, etc.

The application and approval process went smoothly. It probably would have been the same without an agency, but I would argue that the likelihood of approval can be somewhat greater if you fully utilise the potential of a good agency.

Just ask them, before I applied I sent loads of emails asking if the paperwork was ok before I submit it . The Thai embassy in Brazil was lovely and corrected my mistakes before hand .

"Just ask" lol. You were very lucky that your embassy answers questions. The one I used does not even answer e-mails.

Don’t be cheap if you can’t afford to loose 10K you shouldn’t be coming to Thailand full stop🛑
Wayne *******
Anonymous participant 132 What makes someone "cheap" for not wanting to lose 10,000 baht?

Cant wait to hear this one
Anonymous *************
ORIGINAL POSTER
It’s not about being cheap—it’s about being smart. No one wants to throw away 10K unnecessarily if they can avoid it. Just because someone is mindful of their expenses doesn’t mean they can’t afford to be here. Planning ahead and making informed decisions is just common sense.
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant really I’m not so sure ! 10K is a very small amount especially if you come from the west ! So I wholly refute your point! Thailand needs spenders not pinchers !
Brian *********
Nope. It would take longer to give the answers and docs to an agent than doing it yourself. There is literally nothing to prepare and you’d just be handing them to the agent who would hand them to the embassy… pointless

Haha another hidden agency post, 99% DTV gets approved, it's very basic to upload your documents if you meet the criteria, if you don't then DTV isn't for you and stay on standard visa exempt, if you pay an agency be prepared to pay again and again each 180 days as you won't be competent providing further information
Nick *******
Anonymous participant 981 show us the data that says 99% are approved? I bet you can't. Stop making things up
Anonymous ******************
@Nick ******
really follow comments for a start thousands get approved well very few get rejected as don't meet the correct criteria so shouldn't have even applied
Nick *******
ha ha funny. so 99% get accepted if you exclude the ones that didn't meet the criteria! 😂😀😂😀😂😀😂 there are lots of posts from people being rejected, in this group and other Visa groups.
Anonymous ******************
@Nick ******
rejected for what reason? Don't have correct funds, spelling errors or missing documents, buying cooking classes from Phuket when clearly staying in udon! Not seen anyone been rejected that meet the criteria, if you do everything correctly maybe it's 100% approval

Anonymous participant 981 Haha, I knew someone would say this before I even posted! 😂

Just to clarify, I’m definitely not an agent. I’m planning to apply next month and just want to cover all possible scenarios to avoid having to apply twice. Also, you never know who’s actually in this group, so for now, I think it makes sense to stay anonymous. If and when I get approved, I’d be more than happy to share my experience and advice here without posting anonymously.

Anonymous participant correct just read the criteria and if you meet everything and submit all the correct documents its almost impossible to get refused, if trying to wing ya way through and not have correct documents then this will cause issues and possibly refused
Wayne *********
Anonymous participant 981 Was thinking the same, alot of rejected posts are anonymous posts too, agents desperate for money 😂

Work related visa shouldn't be a problem as you need to provide more financial details than the Cooking Class/Muay Visa
Christopher *************
Thailand is corrupt. That's why there are agents to give backhanders to the immigration. Just do it the usual way. If it doesn't work, choose a different visa. I would advise against going along with the corruption if possible. There are some situations in which it's difficult to avoid.

There might be a relationship between a few agents and some in embassies closer to Thailand. How far this goes though I am sceptical. Once the DTV is issued there are other services an agent may offer in conjunction with immigration along similar lines they do now for border runs and extensions for holders of other visa types :-) :-)

I'm curious what you used the agent for? Typically agents work on commission for soft power so you wouldn't be charged extra.

If you have the requirements there is no need for an agent.

If you go the softpower route I highly recommend an agent, seems like they are especially cautious with that route.

Thanks. Understandable too. I’d imagine there’s a lot of people abusing the DTV through the softpower route.
