I’m one of the first to get vaccine next month and will get second shot in January. If I reapply for my retirement visa January do you think I would be able to travel in February/ March.
Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is planning to receive their vaccines in December and January and inquires about the possibility of traveling to Thailand in February or March to reapply for a retirement visa. Responses indicate uncertainty about the evolving travel restrictions and quarantine requirements, with many suggesting that the vaccine may not significantly impact entry in the immediate future. It is noted that travelers may still need to undergo quarantine and provide an antibody test, regardless of vaccination status.

Thailand probably won't make alterations to ASQ requirement until at least late 2021 when the risks are better assessed. They opened tourist visa now generally with ASQ, so they are slowly opening back towards normal. But to claim ASQ will be here forever is also foolish, Thailand is missing out on the Chinese tourist market big time now (since China has 14 day ASQ going back as well), it just takes time to get back to normal. There's also trials for vaccines in Thailand itself now too.

You will be able to travel. Nothing has been mooted regarding how vaccination with affect entry requirements. You will still need visa/coe, preflight testing ASQ quarantine 15 nights, incl. post flight testing and insurance covid-19 $100,000 USD.

It depends on whether Thailand recognise the Vaccine and approve it personally I think you would still have to quarantine in a Bangkok hotel

Right now the Thai government has made no policy about the COVID-19 vaccine, or how it might affect quarentineen.

I'm not sure about vaccination but am in the process of applying for a certificate of entry now apsp my retirement visa is valid till the 27th of January 2021. The embassy website and response is terrible! Misinformation about numbers to call (also in their email replies) being referred back to the website where the same inaccurate information is repeat today I sent 3 emails to different departments regarding this and one automated response telling me that they are busy and should reply in

Bring some vaccine with you. Just in case.

Vaccine or not, can't see any exceptions being made for ASQ.
Is it an option that you come to Thailand on a tourist visa and then apply for your retirement visa once you’re here? I’m pretty confident to say getting the vaccine will not make a difference in terms of how you’re viewed crossing the border for several months, countries will need To see outcome studies

Your local Thai embassy should update their website if and when retirement visa holders can apply for a certificate of entry. I doubt having a vaccine will have any relevance to this situation as no vaccine is 100% effective and Thailand is committed to being 100% covid free.

I have a feeling if I see areas relatively deserted you will tell me there was a festival somewhere else the people were attending.or there had a big party that night and now everybody was sleeping it off, or everyone was locked uptake police because they were at a demonstration, or they were on a travel shoot with Richard Barroows I look forward to all the reasons I can be wrong.Thank you
While it makes sense a vaccine won't have any relevance right now, it definitely will some months down the road. Thailand is keen to get back in the Chinese tourist market, they will not keep ASQ forever.

Trust the World Bank forecasts and not the local ones (WB are -9% GDP more or less). I agree they badly need to arrange some travel bubbles with Asian countries but even Singapore and HK (two World class cities) have problems right now! The bubbles will not happen for a long time... China has no interest (economically) and in terms of public health to take any risk with Thailand. Same for Korea... and Japan has 2000 cases per day right now.

Only option is to speed up a i-visa based on vaccine and - from time to time - get some covid cases... The boss of the Minor group (Avani hotels...) - a major group that could disappear if nothing change - mentioned that covid cases are almost all detected during the first week. Anyway... 10 million jobs are on the line... (and most of them with low qualification).
what are these 10 million jobs you are talking about? international tourism stopped more than half a year ago in thailand and there is NOT a serious furlough scheme. if there are jobs to be lost, they are lost already. the only way is up from here.
There is no furlough scheme (nothing like what Europe does)... just an indemnity of 5000 THB/month that started in the Spring/Summer (for people with official contracts)... and was quickly running out of budget (there is a debt holidays tough). The 20% of GDP employs around 25% plus of work force. My motorbike drivers in Pattaya are queuing for food... they have zero other option... Pattaya has lost 300.000 people over the last six months - people went back to the farms in Isaan... that's the option B!
I know - they ran out of budget very fast... the original money allocated was far too low... several waitresses working for a restaurant I know have never seen a THB...!
In fact the owner of the restaurant kept his restaurant open (loosing money) to provide a salary for the employees waiting "forever and ever" they money... I went there on purpose to provide a bit of help (as customer).

I am afraid there is still some way down... we are not at the bottom of the pool yet.
here two personal things. Wifes family have three hotels, bookings are great domestic tourism is booming all these guys would normally travelling overseas.
My wife was in company doing back end hotel booking systems. Her company went bankrupt. Everyone has new jobs
very true. backpacker hostels are screwed but most mid-range to high-end hotels within driving distance from bangkok are busy. i bet most of your wife's ex-colleagues found work in retail e-commerce. that sector is hiring like crazy now in bangkok.
lol... 100% covid free is a pipe dream, like the flu - covid is now endemic! In they stick to this idea, 30% of the population are back to the rice field in no time...
go to any mall (paragon, centralworld, mega bangna, central ladprao, etc etc)
at the weekend or evening; they are all packed. some people might be struggling but many more are not. it's nowhere near the apocalypse many (including myself) were predicting when things first kicked off. hence, when surveyed the majority dont even want tourists back.
I just got a message and a picture from Night bazaar in Chiang Mai and it is dead as a door nail. That is what I see and what they are telling me. I’m glad the malls are going well. So is Amazon in America but that means shit for the general retail stores
No need. Reality check. I went to RICHARD Barrows Facebok Page and I saw where he was on Kon Kret boat And I only counted 3 to 4 other people and all the other rows were empty. So I don’t know what he saying, but pictures don’t lie
the night bazaar is a mecca for backpackers and they are long gone. retail in thailand revolves around the malls and over time more so on ecommerce (lazada, shopee, etc). these companies are creating loads of jobs for thais just as amazon is in most western countries. obviously loads of uneducated people are struggling to find work these days but that is a global phenomenom, and the only solution is for them to learn something, rather than artificially prolonging the life of doomed companies or sectors.
BKK? Sure... Hotels are running at 20% capacity and most of my friends living there are getting very few contracts (IT...) at nowadays very low rates. Wanna check Pattaya? Samui? Phuket?
things are not as bad as you make out. tourism is down 70% (only domestic left) but the overall economy is only down around 5%. most hospitality workers who haven't been able to go back to work have long since moved to other sectors. whenever thailand sorts out travel bubbles with other covid free asian countries, the tourism industry will only be missing the 20-30% of westerners and the economy will otherwise basically be back to normal.
Make the maths... Tourism is 20% of GDP (Fitch rating - BOT...) A and only 40% (Thai statistics) of the remaining 5% (local) still exist... For the travel bubble... China, Korea will keep imposing 14 days quarantine on the way back... And for your info - Chinese have about 7-10 holidays/year...
But yeah, people who were waitress in bar are now IT programmer...
domestic tourism is 30% of tourism and other sectors are growing, hence why the overall economy is only estimated to contract by around 5% this year. thailand definitely needs to arrange travel bubbles to avoid quarantine at either end, with other covid free (or nearly covid free) asian countries, which also make up most of international tourism revenue (and that proportion will continue to trend up over the coming decades). i'm not sure what other solution you are suggesting but i can guarantee they won't be allowing westerners in without quarantine for a very long time.

Who knows what will be in February or March next year. Probably you’d still have to do quarantine and other hoops like insurance, fit to fly, but it could have all changed by then.
