TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, currently holding a one-year visa in Thailand, seeks advice on the availability of AstraZeneca vaccines for expats before their second dose is due in June 2021. Responses indicate that although Thailand is in short supply of vaccines, particularly for foreigners, efforts are being made to procure more doses. Users suggest checking Thai government resources for updates, with skepticism expressed about availability for expats under 65 or 60 years of age. There are worries about quarantine regulations impacting those planning to travel abroad for vaccinations.

I doubt very much you will get AZ here in June. A local company is due to produce it under license from AZ. There are estimates it will come online in June and July but that remains to be seen due to the nature of vaccine manufacture. Serum Institute of India (AZ / Covidshield) who could possibly be a supplier are not currently exporting and Thailand does not seem to have a plan to buy any. The only vaccine being bought is from China - they just approved buying another 500k doses last week.

500k doses 😱😱😱. The uk are vaccinating more than that in one day!!! Very poor show by the Thai government 😡

I know and it is best not to talk about it in public. The plans are for Siam Bioscience to be producing 10 million doses per month this year. Personally, I am seriously considering a flight to the UK on 1st July, I can work from there and come back vaccinated ed of August.

you're unlikely to get the 2nd dose of AZ in June as a foreigner. I'm not sure what impact that has, i.e. do you start from dose 1 again, could you use a different vaccine etc?

Do you mean getting another 2 on top of the one you had? Really need to ask a specialist about this and not just any Dr never mind on here.

I have no idea, I suggest you speak with a doctor about it as they will know a lot more than people on Facebook.

Yeah, ASQ with kids might be tough. I am single so no bother. The current worry is Thailand turning to a Red Zone for UK and needing to do quarantine in the UK. My boss has suggested looking for closer options like Bali etc. The company is trying to source vaccines for all of its expats but obviously no luck.

from what I can gather there appears to be quite a lot of companies, including my employer, trying to source vaccines but it's easier said than done for various reasons. I'm hoping the latest timeline Richard Barrow posted this morning is accurate with Pfizer/Moderna (not sure which) plus the Sputnik one being available from July/August time. I'm happy to pay for the vaccine but if I'm paying then I want a choice.

Not sure Thailand will hit the UK red zone. At least I hope it doesn't as that would mean the shit has well and truly hit the fan over here!!

Moderna have applied for approval. As far as I am away Pfizer have not. Approval within a month but then need to buy and distribute. Moderna said they will only supply to govt not private. Govt could th3n sell on yo private of course

I think most asian countries go for the one shot solution..just to show to the world they did something. Its not at all about their population really.

Malaysia & Singapore are doing a great job. Friends of mine have had both doses, In Malaysia, only 1 month apart! The vaccine is available to everyone with a valid visa!! Not like here, the government have really let expats down 😡
Sammy *******
very, very, very unlikely any dose of any vaccine will be available in June, July, or ???-- especially not to expats, and expats under 65 or even 60.
