I'm on a covid-19 extension which is no longer available to me so I have to leave the country at the end of March. If I take a trip to Cambodia or Vietnam will I have to quarantine for 10 days when I get back or is it much less.

I am fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine. My one year lease expires in September of this year and I want to fulfill my lease and not have to rush to move back to the United States.

I am in a dilemma so any help would be appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is on a COVID-19 extension that is expiring soon and needs to leave Thailand. They are considering traveling to Cambodia or Vietnam but are unsure about the quarantine requirements upon return to Thailand. The responses suggest that since the user is fully vaccinated, they may be eligible for a 'Test and Go' program on their return, which could simplify the re-entry process without a lengthy quarantine. However, specifics about re-entry requirements and potential visa extensions also need to be clarified with Thai immigration.

Have you been told by Thai immigration that you cannot get another COVID extension ?

What visa if any did you first enter Thailand with...and when?

Have you been on any visa obtained inside Thailand?

I was not told by thai immigration that I can no longer get an extension under covid-19. The school I went to told me that the extension on February 24th was the last one the country was granting.

go in mid March and ask Thai immigration.

But do not apply for it unless they say you can get it. As if its denied you will get the dreaded 7 days stamp to depart Thailand.

So it all depends on your nationality, the destination country conditions, and how you have any visa status in a destination country. There might be more than a few for you, or none. Please do your homework first about what country you really can enter now. That only you would be able to know, others can only assume with general information.

For example, if you don't have to get a visa to Thailand, you MIGHT be able to travel to Langkawi, Malaysia, and back. But Only you know if it's a possible option or not.

Vietnam has been open for tourism for seven countries with Thailand and the United States being two of them. I'm a US citizen currently living in Thailand. You will have to quarantine for 3 days but if you are a vaccinated then you can get in on a tourist visa.

I hear with Cambodia pretty much anyone can get in but Vietnam would be my top choice to leave the country for a visit.

if you want to believe that Vietnam is open...Go for It. From a chat with expat in Vietnam now...its closed other than for sandbox on the island off Vietnam coast. And no way to get to the Thai Embassy / Consulate.

For more discussion re travel options...

Do your research. There are many helpful facebook expat forums to review.

Good Luck.

Why can't you use the test and go upon your return?

I was not familiar with the term test and go. I just assumed that it was another way of phrasing quarantine.

I have also been given conflicting answers. Such as I have to fly back to the United States or Thailand won't let me back in. Another one was if I do leave Thailand even for a day I would have to do a mandatory quarantine of 10 to 14 days.

I came here in August on a tourist visa. After several weeks I signed up for a language school to get my 1-year education Visa. After 5 months I failed the ministry of education test at the school so I was told that I would have to get off the Ed Visa and convert to the covid-19 extension. This happened last month and from what I understand that was the last extension that would be granted for anyone under the covid rules. So now I have until March 24th to figure out what I'm going to do next.

My intention was to always come here on an education Visa but at that time you had to do it in person so I could not do it ahead of time and I had to come in under the tourist one

@Bruce ********
pardon me ...but how does one fail a Thai language test ?

Did you actually attend classes or did you buy the Ed visa without classes needed.

Or you chose to change to COVID extension rather than pay for the extra added fees for the Ed Visa extension costs ...

Enough said....no answer needed.

Before your current permission stamp ends in March...ask your Thai Immigration office IF you can get a COVID extension? Do not apply unless they say you can.

Good Luck.

Allow a weeks time in Cambodia...

As it takes three business days to make application for a visa with the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh.

Be sure to check for Thai holidays.

Good Luck...

You will need an RT-PCR COVID test to enter Cambodia and again on your return to Thailand.

one other question. Can I visit any country such as Vietnam or India or does it specifically have to be Cambodia? I mentioned Cambodia because that was the easiest country to get in without having to quarantine. Vietnam is only a 3-day quarantine which I can handle.

@Bruce ********
from recent reports Vietnam is CLOSED unless you book a PACKAGED TOUR... or already inside Vietnam.

@James *******
if that's the case then I did not know that. Nowhere on the website I was reading did it say had to be a packaged tour.

You have research to do.

Our best wishes...

And may I add...

As your current stamp ends in March...its a long stretch to get added 6 months to September.

A tourist visa will only give you 3 months.
James ********
@Bruce ********
right now...Cambodia...be thankful it is OPEN for tourism.

Vietnam is CLOSED and India air travel is often cancelled.

On your post...

and all posts about getting a visa there will pop up to read.

As to the requirements for reentering Thailand...you need a Thailand Pass and meet its requirements...

As you are fully vaccinated ..

You can do Test N Go upon your return.
