it is the thai consulates OUTSIDE of thailand that want that police clearance to sell you a 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement) NOT the immigration office inside the country.
You could get around that by applying for a 90 day Non-O visa inside the country at the immigration office. You would need at least 15 days left on your current stamp to do it (Chiang Mai is 21 days). You apply, it goes under consideration for 2 weeks then you go back and get the Non-O visa and your 90 day stamp inked into your passport. After you have that you wait until you have 30 days or less left on that stamp and go back to apply for the yearly extension

I have everything else ready for a Retirement VISA, been living in Thailand for 9 years. this is the first I've heard about a police clearance from THAI Police.
Any ideas on how to get a list of the required documents?

Eish... I am hoping to do a border bounce in Mae Sai this weekend. Will be my first land crossing of the year. I just want the 30 day entry visa for now. Still working on the education visa.
South African if the "Eish" didn't give it away already.

A non imm B visa is not an authority to work per se. It is required before a work permit(wp) can be issued by your provincial labour office. An alternative to the B is a Non Imm O based on marriage to a Thai national. I worked on a WP for 9 years and never left - I extended annually at immigration. Having had a 5 year gap I am doing it all again.

No police clearance of any kind required for a non-o at Thai embassy or consulates in the USA

Sorry, to clarify, no police check required for non o visa (marriage), it is required for non o-a (retirement)

Jim Tachinamurthy is the best guy in town. Don't like the rude Filipina at Banana. Jim is honest straight forward and entertaining at times.

Do you follow the rule, 2 times land-crossing tourist visas per calender year?
I am bit confused with this. What about other countries ? Can you share me the list of those 44 countries plz.
Tod *********
what do you mean?
People from 44 countries can get only TWO 30 day visa exempt entries in a calendar year by land. That has nothing to do with this post about visas for thailand from the consulate in Penang :/

I admire the fact that they separate the official fees from their her own service fees. I haven’t seen agencies inside Thailand to do that. And the fees are pretty reasonable too.
Tod *********
that's because the fees are clearly posted at the consulate for how much the visas cost AND because there are more agents pushing paper down in Penang than you can shake a stick at. It's a super competitive market (even though most of the smaller places use one of the three BIG agencies to turn in their stuff for them).
I think they only need one police clearance for the Non-O based on retirement and the thai one is okay.

So you apply back in the UK? We call them CRB checks back in the UK. Is that the same thing? Would it mean a visit back to the UK? Wonder how I would get one while still in Thailand.
Tod *********
If you are getting the Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement) yes, they now want it.

No, it's fine, it's an agent that pushes paper in another country to help people get visas, not one inside the country.
The police clearances are for Non-B and Non-O visas right?
I wonder about the two police clearances needed and think it might be only that agency that does it. Because it'd be all over the interweb by now if it was a policy

Do we need to make the translation of the police clearance document from our own country? because I guess they're not able to read neither german or spanish...I f yes I suppose this translation should be kind of official with an official stamp or something

Teachers work with children. Perhaps this is why there is extra security processing their visa.
