What are the chances of getting approved for a Non-B visa for teaching in Thailand without a Thai Police Certificate?

What are the chances of my husband and me getting approved for a Non-B for teaching in Penang WITHOUT a Thai Police Certificate? Has anybody done it recently?

We have everything else- including our police clearance from USA (our passport country.) The reason we ask is we just learned of this requirement yesterday... Hours after arriving here in Penang.

We moved to Thailand 2 months ago and have a sprinkling of tourist visas stamps from over the years. Not sure if that is related info.

Secondly, is there any reason we should not just try tomorrow (since we are already here) and hope for the best? Are there repercussions we should know about from being rejected? We want to do things right- we were just given bad info before flying here. TIA.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster was concerned about applying for a Non-B visa for teaching in Penang, Thailand, without a Thai Police Certificate, having arrived recently. They mentioned possessing a police clearance from the USA instead. Several commenters encouraged them to apply regardless, sharing experiences where approvals occurred without the required Thai police documentation. An update revealed the couple successfully received their Non-B visas, despite initial concerns from the consulate about the missing Thai Police Certificate.

UPDATE: approved! We got our non-B single entry visas for teaching. It's a miracle.

@Jay ******
, that was exactly why I said you were out nothing by trying to apply for the visa. ;) Now lets see IF you have a new 90 day Non-B visa in your passport tomorrow when you pick it up. Then you'll know it worked (y) Good Luck :)

Update: just got back from the consulate. He asked about the Thai police certificate and we explained we don't have it since we only recently arrived to Thailand... He was a little grumpy about it but accepted the paperwork. So I think that's a good sign? Said next time you will need it. We will pick up our passports tomorrow afternoon.

Thai consulate at Penang request police certificate from Thai police right? Not home country?
IIlkcan ********
I feel like Thailand.
Robert *******
a recent copy of Police clearance, no mention of home country or Thailand.

How about Savannakhet, Laos?
Robert *******
They want both, Thai and home country.

You won't get a work permit without the clearance

.... I'm 99% sure we don't have any receipt-looking document with us. On our way shortly. Will know how it's going to go in an hour or so....

@Sa***
IF they have documentation from the company that's going to hire them to go to a thai consulate and get a Non-B they already have a receipt that the employer applied for a work permit for them in their document packet.

@Jay ******
non b m not sure. My employer did mine within Thailand and I had to have my clearance. You need it to get your permit though

Are you saying that I could get the nonB but not the work permit? I understand those to be two different things...
Zabel ******************
On another note as I also understand it they only give Non B visa to either share holder or company directors not sure if they're difference rules when it comes to schools correct me if am wrong
Zabel ******************
@Tod ********
noted it's because I always get my yearly I didten think about there are the 3 month non B visa as well
Robert *******
Differten Visa, different rules. Single Entry Non Immigrant B visa can be obtained by anyone working in Thailand. The Multiple Entry Non Immigrant B only by share holders with minimum 20% shares or being director.
Tod *********
Unfortunately you understand that wrong :O :/ ;

They only issue year-long, multi-entry Non-B visas to managing directors or people who hold at least 20% shares in the company.

They'll sell 90 day single entry Non-B's to anyone who has the right documentation ;)
Zabel ******************
As I understand you will need the police clearance not to get rejected.

here is the link where you get it

no it seems I skipped that part ๐Ÿ˜‰
Tod *********
you did notice I just posted that link above your post right? ;)
Tod *********
Good Luck :) Report back if you can tomorrow and let us know how it goes for you.. Remember they ONLY take 100 applications a day there now too.

Several teachers in my area refused recently. Dont go without it they say
Tod *********
Well, if you're there, you're out nothing by trying it. I mean they recently posted a thing stating they won't let people without the correct documentation into the consulate compound.

Try it, the worst that will happen is you'll be told you need it.

Nothing's gonna happen if you're rejected, just get the documentation they want and try again
