Applying for DTV

Hello everyone,

I’m planning to apply for the DTV under the Workation category and have a couple of questions.

1. Flights: Do I need to book confirmed, paid flights before submitting my application, or would a flight reservation be sufficient?

2. Accommodation: Do I need to provide accommodation bookings covering my entire intended stay? I’m planning to state 90 days in my application, but I would prefer to book a hotel for the first week or two while I look for a long-term rental.

Has anyone applied with a similar arrangement and had their visa approved? Would you recommend a different approach?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and advice!
Answer summary
When applying for the DTV under the Workation category, confirmed or paid flights are not required. Instead, an itinerary note stating intentions to book after visa approval is acceptable. Accommodation does not need to cover the entire stay; a booking for the first week is preferred, and it's also acceptable to provide a friend's address with an explanation of future housing plans. Applicants should focus on providing a solid financial statement, proof of employment, and a cover letter outlining their stay intentions.

For DTV Workation, you do NOT need flights or full 90 days hotel - in fact booking 90 days hotel looks wrong.

*1. Flights:*

No confirmed flights needed for any eVisa consulate. MFA checklist doesn't ask for flights.

- Don't buy flights before visa approved - if rejected, you lose money

- If the portal forces you to upload something in "flight" field, upload a simple itinerary note: "Intend to fly around after visa approval - ticket to be purchased"

- Some old agencies still tell you to buy - ignore[date]

*2. Accommodation:*

Also not required to cover full 90 days. What works and is approved daily:

- Book first 5-7 days hotel/Airbnb - refundable booking - upload that

- Or if you have a friend's address, you can write "Initial stay at hotel, then will rent long-term in "[city]

What NOT to do:

- Book 90 days non-refundable condo to impress embassy - they don't care and it looks like you think DTV is 90 days only, not 5 year visa

- Upload nothing - some consulates (Jakarta, Taipei) have a mandatory accommodation field - at least give first week

*Pack that gets approved for Workation:*

- Bank statements 500k+

- Employment / business proof

- Cover letter stating "Intend to stay 90 days first entry, initial accommodation at [hotel name] for first week"

- Hotel booking for first week

- No flights

90 days in application is perfect - write 60-180 days, all accepted. Embassy gives you 5 year visa regardless of what you write.

Which consulate are you applying through? LA and London don't even ask for accommodation field, while Jakarta and HCMC do - I can tell you exactly what to upload for yours.

You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.

May I suggest using the groups search facility as such questions are asked on an almost daily basis.

You can’t get the eight answers without telling the Embassy you will apply at, since many requirements are Embassy specific.

Start by reading that Embassy website Thoroughly.

Search the group including the Embassy name.

You questions has been answered numerous times.

My application was over 18 months ago now in Australia. At that time I provided no flight or accomodation details just an intended date of travel. May have changed or may be different at other embassies.

Just book a fare with option to change dates, even if rejected you can fly in on whatever visa or exempt🤷‍♂️

The same question has been asked every day. It depends on the embassy. You need to search for the rules of the embassy. For some reason everyone who asks this question doesn't want to buy a fully refundable ticket. I don't understand what the difference between a booking and a reservation is. Aren't they the same? If you want your money back in case of rejection or changes, book a fully refundable ticket. The same applies to accommodation. You can book fully refundable hotel rooms if you want your money back. Some listings also don't even need payment until the check in date.

I booked my flight, but some just give the flights date, then book if requested. It depends on the embassy. As for address in Thailand, I just booked the first couple of nights in a hotel, and have that address along with the hotel booking confirmation.
