DTV application under Muay Thai cancelled by embassy asking to go for ED Visa.

Checking whether should I apply again for DTV and try my luck second time?

First application done by self, should i use agent to go through application this time?

Would you suggest to wait for few weeks before submitting again?

Edit: New Delhi embassy.

Applied on 29th Sep. Asked for additional documents on 2nd Oct submitted same on 5th.

Cancelled on 6th
Summary so far
The user inquired about reapplying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) for Muay Thai after their initial application was cancelled by the New Delhi embassy, which recommended applying for an Education (ED) visa instead. They are considering whether to try again with the DTV visa, use an agent for the application, and whether to wait before submitting a new application. The comments provide a range of opinions on the difficulties of reapplying and whether using an agent would help.

Doubtful if another application on the same basis would change anything except costing you another 10.000 Baht.

Agents wont change anything, only cost you money.

Which embassy was this? Never heard of this happening, usually they just issue you a METV.

I’m on the DTV for Almost 2 years now and I’d dare to disagree: it’s the worst visa there is for Thailand - with current bank account ban, extra scrutiny and entry denials based on nebulous and constantly changing criteria plus it’s “stickiness” (virtually impossible to get rid of this DTV or convert it if your circumstances change ie. you get married or get a job offer)… it’s actually a trap, promising long term residence-like stay, while in essence being a sticky 5yr verion of METV. I regret getting this visa so much that my advice for the OP would be to actually avoid it at all cost and follow the Embassy’s advice - apply for the ED.

ScenicPersimmon2836 that’s unfair and I’m sure you can request to terminate your visa but as you’ve experienced what should be and what are here are not always the same thing.

I see your point. From my perspective however this kinda makes it a “bad” visa in a sense: above all it promised flexibility at low cost but delivers neither and everything but. I agree these might not be the most typical scenario but I also imagine I’m not the only person out there whose circumstances changed while still being in too young for a retirement visa…

ScenicPersimmon2836 yours is a very personal and unique experience. This does not make the DTV inherently 'bad' or not worthy. I have seen figures quoting over 30,000 have been approved and issued and there will always be a few that have some problems. I empathise with you in your situation - it is obviously one that wasn't forseen when the DTV rules were drafted. In my case I will one day transition to a retirement visa once my DTV has run its' course.

I respect your opinion. I wish it’s just me having terrible experience and trying to get rid of this DTV thing but I know for a fact it’s not… I’ve already spent well over THB 500k on agents, immigration lawyers, traveling to my home country back and forth… months of struggle and stress just to end up right where I started - married to my loved one but stuck with a 5-year tourist visa: no bank account, no time counting towards PR, no right to get employed if I ever wanted or needed it to support my newly established family or even help my spouse in business - I cannot do it. ha! I don’t even have a valid reason to enter Thailand on this visa anymore! But I’m blocked from getting any other visa.

But then the same guys who’re yapping all over this forum about people “playing the system” will ask questions like “why don’t you just keep living on the DTV with your spouse and wait until it expires?” Well… maybe because above all I respect the Thai law and rules Thailand sets for their country. That’s the very reason I regret applying for the DTV in the first place.

no you cannot.

Check out my other posts with this exact problem. One guy reported they managed to do it somehow after a huge escalation at the immigration central office, but I was there myself and also got 2 first hand reports where this very approach failed… this is a hit or miss at best as there’s no clear legal pathway to convert a DTV into a Non-O. I’m myself married and stuck with a tourist visa (which DTV is) for the next 3 years - no bank account = no in country conversion, exiting back to home country didn’t help: the issuing embassy doesn’t want to even talk about proceessing a cancellation request but rejected my Non-O application after 1 day due to an “active visa”. Immigration offices in two provinces and the central one at Chaeng Wattana told me off, and agents say they can help but then take my paperwork and sometimes money just to say “sorry, cannot”… so I’m stuck at the point where I cannot legally do anything else than wait until this DTV expires and stay out of Thailand not to violate my visa conditions which no longer apply to me like at all (I quit my remote job cause I don’t need it anymore, I got married and want to become a resident so I no longer come to Thailand for “workation”) but no one listens or cares - they straight up refuse to cancel it and file for a proper visa…. I wonder if they will also deny me entry, cause I

am not willing to lie to immigration about the actual reasons I might eventually try to re-enter Thailand (which is to be with my loved one) for the very last time. I kind of think it’s then when this system suddenly will start to care about my circumstances! Also see videos from Integrity Legal - Mr Benjamin was talking about it a lot as well, but I didn’t quite believe it until it happened to me.

ScenicPersimmon2836 I’m confused by the stickiness. Surely you can cancel the visa and then apply for one you deem more suitable

Cancelled usually means passport biodata error mismatch. Which Embassy and exactly what wording?

Which embassy did you apply at? Wow, they’re making it extremely difficult and directing new applicants to get the ED visa

Were you actually issued with an METV? If so you have to wait for that to expire before you can apply again

ED visa are actually 1-year...with the option to extend. The issue can be if you want to leave the country while your ED visa is still active...you could get denied upon reentry because IOs don't believe you should be traveling on an ED visa....
