Why is there a requirement for 90-day reporting for retirement visa holders in Thailand?

It's just an observation, and I know the great helpers on this site are very busy. Dips my lid to you guys.

I just question the purpose of 90 day reporting for those of us here on retirement visas and the like. It really does only confirm that you are still living where you said you were living 90 days back. I don't see the necessity for it considering the fact that if you permanently move to another address you must legally report locally within 24 hours (from memory).

I may have missed something... but it just seems defeatist. Just saying.
