Why do I need to provide copies of the TM6 departure card for my 90-day report in Thailand?

I have recently relocated to Chiang Mai from Australia on a non - AO longstay retirement visa and am due for my first 90 day report at the immigration office next week. Can someone explain the relevance of producing copies of the TM6 departure card when I am stamped in until the end of March 2023.

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement to submit copies of the TM6 departure card during the 90-day immigration report in Thailand has caused confusion among expats. While some assert its necessity for the process, others suggest that it may not be required, especially since recent updates indicate a potential suspension of the TM6 card requirement. Overall, the expats urge compliance with immigration rules despite their often cumbersome nature, and personal experiences reveal that the actual process may involve less paperwork than initially assumed.

90 day report requires no copies of anything.

Just present your passport, with the current paper in it.

Last time was 2 mins thru Phuket immigration drive-thru.

Easiest immigration process.

For those who may gain some insight from my first 90 day report here in Chiang Mai :-

1) Went to the Immigration Office at Central Festival and NOT the airport,

2) The reception staff only required passport plus 1 copy of the TM47 (No copies of the TM6 departure card required, nor copies of passport bio page, nor copies of "stamped in" date, nor photos),

3) The queue was non-existent,

4) The entire process took less than 5 minutes,

5) Walked away with receipt - report again end of September.

The last time I left the country was January 2020...so I still have the same TM6 card from that last entry back into Thailand. It's just further evidence of your last entry. Thailand is the land of paperwork (as a kid in school, we called it busy-work)...there's a lot that doesn't make sense here, and Thai bureaucracy will drive you nuts if you let it.

Relevance is not the problem. Just satisfy the rules , not that difficult !!🤣🤣

Actually if you lose it they could not care less. You don't need it.

Please verify this, I've heard that TM6 is going away on July 1st.

@Teri ****
“Temporary Suspension of TM6 Card

After a Cabinet meeting last week, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced the Thai Government will temporarily suspend the TM6 immigration card for arriving passengers to help ease congestion, screening, and processing times at international airports. The proposal will be implemented within 7-10 days, but it is clearly stated that the change is only temporary while Thai Immigration assesses the flow-on effects.

The TM6 card is one of the major requirements for foreigners to apply for a visa extension at the immigration office, so if you have plans to extend your visa or change your visa, it is recommended that you fill out the TM6 card on arrival even if it is currently suspended.”

If you do the 90 day report online you don't need the TM6 number

seen a report or two saying they’ve done their first online using the new system, but have not been able to verify if true. Give it a go and see.

Relevance! Hahaha. To make you jump through hoops. And they just suspended requiring them didn't they?
Chris *******
@Stephen ******
only partially, for incoming flights only.

Land and sea still applies.

@Chris ******
oh, so only 90%

@Stephen ******
Yes. Relevance and Thai authorities in the one sentance.
Chris *******
No, no one can, it is what they want though.
Brandon ************
Relevance: because it's required if they say it's required and you will not get it done without.

Don't forget to make sure your TM30 matches the address you'll be reporting your 90 days with!
