TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew a retirement visa in Thailand, you may need several documents, including one year of bank statements, a passport photo, 1900 baht, proof of residency, an updated bank book, and a bank guarantee. Requirements can vary by location, so it's advisable to check with your local immigration office for specific needs. Many expats share experiences indicating that additional documents may be required or that processes can vary, suggesting the use of an agent for assistance in dealing with any unexpected requests.

Local Immigration website would be a good place to start, or get the handout at the office when passing.

Go to Cambodia or Vietnam if the Thai immigration is making it hard to enter , South Asia is huge lots of other places to go, and a lot more easy to stay long time

you don't renew your retirement visa - you renew your permission to stay. That's why it is called extension of stay. Always ask your local immi for their folder where they describe the requirements since they can differ (slightly) from immi to immi.

Next year I will be back to Hua Hin Thailand for retirement. In this case my bank told me that I cannot hold my credit card as no more address in Belgium. Then I cannot use Size as they need a credit card which I will no more get. Wat is you advise about it. Thanks

I've got a valid card but I think it's to use it via credit card not an account. Isn't it?

your wise account is viewed as a bank account as that is what it is you can deposit funds ,earn interest ,hold cards or payment apps etc. it’s just an option Walter but an address or P.O. Box in Belgium should negate the loss of the card you hold in any event

Online banking takes care of maintaining you card its just about having a postal address in Belgium should just opt for paper free statements I would think the only time you need a physical address is for card renewal

wise is registered as a bank in most of Europe and can offer cards albeit prepaid credit cards that should suffice or apply at the bank you deposit the funds for retirement tell them what it’s for and they should assist you

I am planning to retire in Thailand next year, however I am not digging all of this red tape. The Philippines is becoming more attractive.

My advice is to go to your local IO and ask for their requirements. At my office they have become much more helpful since I obtained my extension myself rather than through an agent. Ask the IO to write down in Thai what they want from the bank. Show that at the bank and you will get exactly what you require for around 200 baht. Pay 100 baht into your account on the day and update your bank book or do a phone top up instead. If, next year, you wish to move to monthly payments to get your extension you must make those payments AND maintain

0 baht in your account for 3 months after extension and not let your balance fall below
*****
0 baht for the rest of the year. That is to meet the requirements of your extension granted on the basis of banked
*****
0 baht. The monthly payments must show as international on your statements and bank book. Wise transfers to Bangkok Bank using funds for long term stay work for me. I also had to provide uk bank statements to prove where the monthly payments had come from. It sounds complicated but it is worth putting in the effort to work things out for yourself.

Good luck.

If they can make it complicated they will. I am on my 22nd extension of stay. I submit the same copies of stuff about SIX times a year with 90 day reporting; re-entry permits. Most of this information has not changed in TEN years - Thai Immigration contributes massively to Global warming by insisting every farang has a small forest chopped up to provide papers that they have had multiple times over the years. Have they heard of Databases?

1.Bank letter confirming your account

2.Copies of your bank book last 2 months.

3 .Bank book updated on the day of renewal.

4.Take all your bank books with that you used for the year.

Just remember whatever requirements they say you want , in the end it’s up to the person who deals with your application what they ask you for . Doing it yourself is cheap but if they ask you for something random you don’t have you will likely have to go away and start it all again on another day . That’s why many , me included , employ an agent ( they aren’t cheap though it’s a case of how much you value your time ) to “smooth out” any problems . Last year they came up with something totally bizarre with me but the agent sorted what would have been an impossible request for me to solve . So the money was worth it .

Then again you might fly through in 1 hour with no problems . Like everything in Thailand it’s very random and down to your luck on the day

for a first time applicant....can one apply from within Thailand? And how does one go about providing proof of 65k baht per month? Can one submit bank statements from ones home country? My embassy doesn't help its citizens at all, so a letter from them is not possible. Are you able to provide info on this at all? And a list of requirements for a new application?

Here’s what’s required for Phuket. Your local office may vary slightly.

If your embassy does not provide the income affidavit (many no longer will) your only option to switch to a “retirement” visa is using banked 800k.

For the initial visa and 1st year extension that’s the only option. For the 2nd and subsequent year extensions you can switch to the 65k international bank transfers method.
