TLDR : Answer Summary
The ability to live in Thailand and renew a visa depends on various factors such as your nationality, age, financial status, and visa type. Common options for long-term stays include retirement visas, which require financial criteria like having 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account. Alternatively, you may consider work permits, elite visas, or options for marrying a Thai citizen. If unable to meet the financial requirements for a retirement visa, it is advisable to consult a specialized immigration agent for potential other options.

To meet the requirements for a “retirement” visa you’d need to have 800k in a Thai bank in your name only. To get extensions off of that that would allow you to live here indefinitely would require 800k or international deposits of 65k every month for 12 months prior to application.

If you can’t meet that criteria financially then there are options but you’d need to speak with a specialised agent on what they could or couldn’t do for you.

Impossible to answer without knowing many different factors such as whether you are old enough to qualify for a retirement visa, or whether you can find an employer willing to get you a work permit and associated visa, or whether you are willing to pay for an elite visa, plus many other factors. The basic answer is that if you aren't somewhat wealthy and can qualify for either the new long stay visas aimed at the wealthy, or willing to pay the large costs associated with an elite visa, and aren't old enough to qualify for a retirement visa, or aren't willing to marry a Thai, then you can't plan to stay a long time on repeated tourist visas.

A) Not my friend just someone I know him or how he does it.

B) I didn't recommend it - this is Thailand everything up to you

C) When doing something illegal always avoid the cops - I think that would have been obvious

Can stay here Illegally, but it would quite interesting to see him/her try to leave the country, PLUS Police do ask for Passports on occasion, so walking on eggs shells is definitely Not the type of life that is considered Sabaii Sabaii and if ever an accident should occur?!? Enough said... Shoke dee!

If I were in a similar situation and felt like I need to leave, I would probably go to a neighboring country and leave from there.

Apparently the guy doesn't feel like he needs to leave.

First time he gets arrested? Not everyone gets arrested. The only time I've ever encountered the police is when they've taken my blue tube super soakers on Songkran 😅

he won’t get deported immediately - he will spend a considerable time locked up awaiting deportation.

We’d need more info like nationality and age, whether you need to work or study and the like.

Why does nationality matter?

in the long run it doesn’t, but short term certain options are easier depending on nationality and ability to obtain certain entries or visas, whether they can get them at a nearby consulate or would have to return to their home country first.
