TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the decision to allow Chinese tourists back into Thailand amid the ongoing pandemic. While some commenters express skepticism regarding the return of tourists, others highlight the economic significance of Chinese visitors to Thailand's tourism industry. The conversation reveals mixed opinions about the effectiveness of quarantine measures and the potential influx of tourists, emphasizing the contrast between government plans and public expectations.

Everything is relative.

Thai economy , moreso it's people need it so badly.
Steve **********
Why not. China is almost Covid free. They follow the health guidelines and are the biggest investors.
Thailand needs tourism.
Western countries are mired in Covid at the moment.
as long as before it returns to motherland, it passes through a dozen Thais, that's fine. It's the locals that are in need.

" The next phase of tourism reopening could see the time quarantined inside hotel rooms halved to seven days. This might see visitors allowed to spend the next seven days outside their rooms but not outside their hotels." 🤣🤭🤣🤐🤣🤭😂😅🤭🤣😂😁😅🤫 and they forget to add that this easement should for low risk country ! 🤣😅🤭😅🤣😆😂😂

As they should , they are the biggest investor. Thais are decendants at some level. Many can drive thru Myanma, or short flight.

Too bad Chinese never spend any money in Thailand. Not a single baht. Zero dollar = zero baht.
I've noticed prices higher because vendors need more .
Tourism way down but ( not thai ) but supermarket prices increase monthly .
Oliver ********
the number for foreign tourists coming in will be literally limited by quarantine capacity to less than 1% of 2019 levels. it won't make much difference to the supply and demand balance.
but will to some kid whos' ricebowl has a bit more in it.

Well considering China own Thailand, it’s only right I guess
Shaun *******
And they'll be spending their cash at Thai businesses? Yeah right!
Oliver ********
yes of course they will. in 2019 china (including hong kong and taiwan) contributed over 600 BILLION baht to the thai economy. russia and malaysia were both just over 100 billion, and no other country was even above 90 billion.

"Both groups will stay in Thailand for 30 days and will spend the first 14 days in Alternative State Quarantine"
What a nice holidays !

Another exercise of amazing wishful thinking. Someone up there is underestimating Chinese people. Someone up there thinks that they are stupid enough to spend at least 50% of their holidays locked in an hotel room. Good luck with this.

Even though the first detected cases outside China were Chinese tourists, they were not the ones that spread the virus in Thailand. If you had followed the news reports concerning Chinese tourists before this virus, you would know that they were heavily controlled by their tour operators, dictating where they visited, who they came in direct contact with, and most importantly where they were allowed to spend their money. They did not have free days to explore Thailand on their own. Many were even told by their tour operators that Thailand was a very dangerous place, and if they went out on their own they would be robbed and assaulted. There are only two recorded incidences of Thais getting the virus from Chinese, and contact tracing was immediately done. One was a taxi driver, and the other was a health care worker. What is interesting about these STV tourists coming in, is the first group entering on the 20th are businessmen, not tourists. I speculate they are arriving first to re-establish the tourist infrastructure for the Chinese tourists that were in place before this virus, with every place they visited, and spent money at , under Chinese business control, and again making sure all the profit went directly back to China, just as it was before this virus.
, so all the shops, tourist attractions, markets, hotel staff, bus drivers etc, etc, etc they did not come in contact with ????? NOW THERE IS A GOOD TRICK !!!!!!
, Bull shit , There were a considerable number of Chinese tourists on the bus .. Firstly Chinese man sat next to me . Chinese man woman sat seat behind me , the woman talked continually sneezed and coughed behind me . “Non of them were wearing masks “. I was uncomfortable the whole journey to Pattaya .
Make me sick when I hear bull such as this . Not worth saying any more with such stupidity been spoken .
, No you are the Idiot , I speak Chinese and can understand what they were saying . I spoke to the Chinese man who I was forced to sit next to because seats were allocated. What a dick you are failing to see the point I was making and by trying to discredit me when it’s you who is blinkered .
, you live a pretty miserable life don't you. It didn't turn out like you expected did it...hahahaha. get a life looser. Get back on your short bus.

Take a look at infantile nature of your messages and the nature of your response to me and ask yourself , does your messaging reflect an intelligent mature response or more like that of a frustrated individual of low intellect and issues of low self esteem . Not worth engaging with you as it’s an effort to have any kind of sensible dialogue .
Best that you just go away and disappear .

Surely the criteria should be which countries are handling it the best? When Thai government intelligence services see the plethora of videos from countries such as the UK, where people are staging mass demonstrations against wearing face masks and screeching "human rights violations", does it not occur to people that the Thais look at each other, smile, and say "Is that what we want to let into our country?", and "United Kingdom" on the list gets a very firm line drawn through it.
US the same. 50,000 cases a day. The more. deaths and cases, the
more macho. Western arrogance was the hardest things to cast away when I moved here.
Not always quite so successful.

They said that Chinese tourists were going to be arriving a few weeks ago. But it never happened, because although Thailand prepared themselves for it. No Chinese actually booked any flights. I suspect, the same is happening now with this story. No one is coming here.
100 pct you are correct .. think about it chinese only get max 5 to 7 days holidays a year they then want them to quarantine for 2 weeks and the visa from
memory is 30 days upto 90 with extensions don’t the thais do there homework about this first ....
I think your talking about the working class Chinese. Many are very capable of coming for months at a time

"The country that started it all"? It might have started there (also unsure) but it is definitely not the country that started it. The article luckily doesn't say that.
