I'm on a 90 day O visa based on retirement and will be applying for a one year extension this Thursday (15th).

800,000 baht was transferred into my Thai bank account on December 15, 2023. Will I be okay to apply for the extension on February 15th?.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is asking if they can apply for a one-year extension of their O visa, based on retirement, just two months after transferring 800,000 baht into their Thai bank account. Responses suggest that generally, the money must be in the account for three months, although varying interpretations by different immigration offices could affect this. Additionally, it’s emphasized that the funds must be in a Thai bank account in the applicant's name.

Thank you for all your comments.

True, but if there was 1.6 mill in the account it would be okay.

Why do you say that
Christopher *************
Because it is true.

@Christopher ************
and not even this might be true, it depends on how the immigration office you use, is interpreting the rules and allow a joint account with double the required deposit
Christopher *************
I quite agree it does all depend on how the Immigration interpret the rules.

I was told the money has to be in a thai account in your name only . Not wife's account

@Tony ********
That's true.

If applying in Bangkok the ship of state generally follows the official rules. One thing you can count on is the rules will change. David hit the bullseye. Provincial offices occasionally tend to assign different priorities to the requirements.

I heard it's two months before and three months after you get the extension. Mind you, beware the Thai taxman, I believe there after your money, retiree or not.

Should be in the account for 3 months but depends on immigration office

@David *********
wrong, the police order clearly states, two months before and three months after. Some immigration officers but like to give you wrong information

Should be fine. That would be the first day you could apply.

, that i knew also. But i heard from officer, when i renuewed my visa, the money have to be 3 month before and after renuew visa. Probably first apply its like you said.

What office did you use? They’re may be some rogue officers out there spouting rules from years ago but the actual current rule is two months prior and three months after.

, i get it. Its only what i heard, some are confusing and knownless
