Hello, thank you for accepting my request to join the group. I hope to be able to contribute in the weeks and years to come. For now I have a question. I’m currently quarantining in Bangkok with my wife and daughter and I eventually will be applying for a retirement visa. But to buy some more time I want to apply for a 60 day Covid extension.

I arrived on VOA with a 45 day stamp.

Do you know when I get a 60 day Covid extension for my family and I, will the extension begin 60 days from the expiration date on the VOA stamp OR 60 days from the day I get the extension at Thai Immigration? Thank you for your help and your valuable time! Only 3 more days of quarantine !!! Woo Hoo !!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently quarantining in Bangkok and planning to apply for a retirement visa. They have a 45-day stamp from a visa on arrival (VoA) and are inquiring whether a 60-day COVID extension will commence from the expiration date of their VoA stamp or from the date they apply for the extension at Thai Immigration. Responses clarify that typically, the COVID extension begins on the application date at the immigration office, but they may need to first apply for a standard 30-day tourism extension due to their entry method.

You entered Thailand on the visa-exempt scheme (means you didn't get any visa at all. VOA -visa on arrival- is a different thing that you need to buy a visa on arrival and that is not available right now). At most immigration offices you may have to apply for a standard 30days tourism extension first. Also at most immigration offices, you would be able to apply for an extension when you have 30day or less with your current stamp.

It would be up to the immigration office (or even the officer) if you can apply for a 60days covid extension first.

Standard 30days extension would start when your current extension ends (means 30days will be 'added' to your stamp), but your first 60days Covid extension would start on the day of application in most cases.

When you leave ASQ and return to your home in Thailand file the TM 30 address notice with Thai immigration.

I assume you are legally married to Thai.

When you do ask them for their list of requirements for the Non O Marriage visa and one year extension of stay based on marriage to Thai.

You will be able to get the 30 days extension of stay as you entered Thailand visa exempt.

The COVID extension of 60 days may or may not be available to you as most Thai immigration offices require you to get the 30 days extension first.

What Thai immigration office do you use?

I’m not married to a Thai — so all 3 of us will need to file an extension. so will a serviced apartment be able to give me a TM 30? I rented an apartment for a month in Chiang Rai where I will drive to immediately after ASQ. During the 30 days we will look for a long term condo / house to rent. Thank you for your help and input.

@George *****
, they should be able to give you the TM30 receipt (or proof). Talk with the reception or manager about it.
