When Should I Apply for a COVID-19 Visa Extension in Thailand?

Hi .

I am Canadian. Entered on visa exempt on February 15, then went to get 30 days extension for ฿1900 which leads me to April 16th.

Now, I wish to extend my stay and I DID obtain a letter from the Canadian Consulate related to COVID-19.

I wish to apply for an "Extension based on Covid-19"

I understand that the "Application of stay under consideration" is not a fixed number of days and has been varying between 7 to 30 days.

My question to this group: Is the extension ADDED. AFTER the expiration of my current visa exempt extension? Or is it effective from the day it is granted?

In other words, should I wait until April 15th to go and request an "Extension based on Covid-19" in order to maximise my stay and not lose the days between now and April 16th?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a Canadian national, seeks clarification on the timing of applying for a COVID-19 extension to their visa exempt stay in Thailand. After obtaining an extension until April 16, they inquire whether the COVID-19 extension takes effect immediately upon approval or is added to their current extension after it expires. A comment suggests applying a day or two before the current extension expires, indicating that the COVID-19 extension is dated from the application submission.
