TLDR : Answer Summary
James is seeking advice on the specific wording accepted by Thai Immigration for an "affidavit of income" from the New Zealand embassy to apply for a Non-O visa while in Thailand. The community offers various insights, including the standard wording variations among embassies and the requirement to present original documentation related to the affidavit. There's also discussion on the necessity to show funds in a Thai bank account, especially for extensions, and the challenges faced by New Zealand nationals regarding visa applications.

You just need to provide proof of your income (mine was NZ super and military pension) and they provide a letter confirming the annual amount in Thai baht. When I did my extension I attached a copy of both pension letters and a couple of my NZ bank statements highlighting the funds going in as proof.

You can email the Embassy at

and they'll tell you what they require, cost and bank details to make payment (was 900 baht last time I did it). Takes about a week tops, they should email you to confirm the letter has been sent (they will attach a copy with the email) and tracking number. Hope this helps.

Good luck it is affidavit. Have a look at the NZ fees v other countries for getting Thai visas and you’ll see what you’re up against as NZ has done something to p*** the Thais off. Just go the 800Bk bank deposit route.

Check you specific situation as you may be required to apply outside of Thailand for the non -O visa. Under specific conditions you may be able to convert. In the US the initial non-O visa is applied for online and a 90 day visa is granted. Once in Thailand, the bank account is opened and the other requirements are met to get a 1 year extension. You will not be able to open a bank account if you are on a visa exemption or a tourist visa needed for the non-O visa.

John Valich No issues to apply in country with a affidavit letter confirming income if you fulfil monthly requirements regarding income.

Jan Kenneth Nesland how does one open the required Thai bank account to deposit the monthly income to? You need to have the visa to open the account. The banks do not accept a tourist or visa exempt stamp to open an account. It is my understanding the bank account and necessary time requirements are needed to be in place to receive a Non-O in country but only proof of funds if applied online from outside the country for the initial 90 Non-O. Could be mistaken as rules change

if your embassy in Thailand provides an income affidavit/certificate you don't need to show money in a Thai bank. Sadly many embassies no longer provide this

Im not 100% sure but im on the understanding that you still have to show the full total in your thai bank account for 2 months and can only us the monthly method on your first extension.

Stuart Levy An affidavit letter confirming income it’s sufficient, but sadly only a few embassies are offering this service now. Orelse you’ll need to prove it yourself as you state.

The embassies use different standard wording, all accepted by immigration, but be prepared to show the original documents the affidavit is based on if asked.
