How should I document my financial situation for a Non-O Marriage visa application in Thailand?

Hello everyone and Happy New Year.

I’m applying for a Non-O Marriage visa for the first time (Laos / Vientiane) and I’d appreciate advice from people who have real experience.

I fully meet the 400,000 THB financial requirement, but I’m unsure how to correctly present the 3-month bank documentation in my situation.

The required funds are held in my Norwegian savings account under my name. This bank does not issue monthly statements for savings accounts, only an annual statement or an official letter confirming account ownership and current balance.

My Norwegian personal current account shows zero balance and no activity in recent months, simply because I haven’t been using it. Until now, I have been staying in Thailand on extensions, and this account hasn’t been practical for everyday use here.

I primarily pay myself from my business account directly to Wise, which I use as my main account for daily expenses, together with my wife’s Thai bank account, which is in her name.

I’m getting mixed information... some say Wise statements are accepted, others say they are not. I’m not asking about moving funds, only about how to properly document the last 3 months.

In this case, would you submit 3-month statements from the personal account even if they show only 0 balance and 0 transactions, or would you use Wise statements, or a combination of both? How is this usually handled in practice?

Thanks in advance for any insight.🙏

Can you get a Fresh Copy of that Letter Confirming Account Ownership and Current Balance from your Norwegian Bank?? Also, does your Norwegian Bank Account have any online access??

Yes, I will have a confirmation letter showing the current balance, dated today, and I do have full online access to the account.

My concern is that the e-visa might be rejected automatically if the 3-month bank statements show only zeros with no activity. That’s why I’m trying to understand the best way to present the documents properly.

Pepe-visa2026 Personally, in this particular, specific, extraordinary circumstance and situation, my personal opinion is to provide, in addition to a cover letter explaining the situation, the latest available Annual Statement, a Fresh Copy with Current Balance Confirmation Letter, and, contrary to the warning: "Screenshots" from your Online Access going back to the last day of that Annual Statement

Perhaps, (highly unlikely), you could also attempt and try broach the topic when you go to the Thai Embassy in Vientiane to make Cash Payment in Thai Baht for your Non–O E–Visa Fee with a Print out the the E–Visa Fee QR Code for Cash Payment

Also, do have that Norwegian bank account online access available for instant access for when you are inside the Thai Embassy in Vientiane 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

The 400 thou needs to be in a Thai bank account, which you will open with your Non O visa, then it needs to sit for 2 months before immigration will look at it, all your paperwork for the marriage extension needs to be Translated to Thai.

it only needs to be in a Thai bank account if you're applying in Thailand for the Visa. It definitely needs to be in Thailand if you're applying for the extension.

Sounds to me like you need to compose a brief explanation cover letter to combine with your bank statements upload.

That makes sense, thank you.

So in practice, would it be best to submit a combination of my personal bank statements (even if they show no recent activity), together with Wise statements, and include a short cover letter explaining the situation?

The first thing to consider is whether you are applying for the correct visa. If you have a business which you operate remotely from Thailand you should look at the DTV workation option as a marriage visa doesn't allow you to legally work remotely

Thanks for your input, I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.

I’m aware that remote work can be considered a grey area in Thailand, however in my case I’m applying specifically for a Non-O Marriage visa based on family reasons.

I don’t have any Thai clients and I’m not operating a business in Thailand itself.

My question here is focused purely on the financial documentation requirements for the visa application process.

Thanks again for the advice.

Pepe-visa2026 no grey area. A Non-O based on marriage does not allow you to work remotely from Thailand. You should get the DTV as you are exactly the type of person it is for.

I’ve looked into DTV already, but unfortunately my type of business doesn’t fall under the DTV eligibility criteria, so it’s not a viable option for me. That’s why I’m applying for a Non-O Marriage visa.

Pepe-visa2026 my advice in that case is to keep it very quiet as you will be working illegally

Pepe-visa2026 I am not fully familiar with the specific requirements, but it is also possible to obtain a work permit while holding a stay based on marriage.
