I'm being told on Koh Phangan that as soon as the borders open those on the visa amnesty will have 7 days to leave. In other words the amnesty isn't automatically until the 31st July if the borders open sooner. Does anyone have any more info about this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is currently confusion regarding the implications of the visa amnesty once Thailand's borders reopen. While some individuals have claimed that visa amnesty holders will be required to leave within 7 days, comments suggest this information may be inaccurate. Official sources have not confirmed such a rule for western amnesty holders; instead, updates will come from the government to clarify the situation following the reopening. It's advisable for those affected to keep an eye on official announcements.

Why don’t you call the Immigration office in Samui und ask about it?

They wouldn't know, there's no policy released yet about what would happen after July 31

Part of what you're told is correct and part is not

There is NO 7 days to get out rule once the borders open for 'western" amnesty holders. That's for the three neighboring countries citizens who got stuck here on temporary border passes (Cambodians, Burmese, Laotians)

BUT you were told correctly about this amnesty NOT being a "free pass to stay 3 months" sort of thing. It was written purposely to state you can stay NO LONGER than the 31st of July.

IF you take the amnesty you need to pay attention to when the borders open, and the announcement that the government makes concerning amnesty holders when that happens.

what you've been told and what will be, is always different. Just wait until there is an official announcement. This page and its admins will keep you updated.

Be cautious of those on KP who want to profit by misinformation regarding the visa situation....

on Koh Phangnan you will be told many things. MOST if not ALL will be nonsense.

In the announcement is written that a new announcement will be made with the end date and a period of leniency to give all the time and possibilities to provide themselves with a new entry stamp or new visa.

We all have to wait until that announcement is made, the 7 days what people talking about is for the people from neighbor countries holding a border pass, nothing to do with a visa or visa exempt entry.

In the official Thai version of the announcement, there is no mention about a "7 day to leave" or other information about what to do when the borders reopen, or what would happen after July 31.
