If a child is applying outside of Thailand for an ED visa from an International school and their parent is applying Non-O at the same time - in the same interview at a Thai Embassy - what visa will the parent get if the child at the point of the application only has an application for ED visa and not yet the one year ED stamp in passport?
I have asked school's visa department at the school of course - so no need to comment about that please. They are just slow and giving me mixed messages on other important details - so I am now feeling the need to FB it to see what comes in!
Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If a parent applies for a Non-O visa while their child is applying for an ED visa at the same Thai Embassy interview, the parent will receive a 90-day Non-O visa upon entry to Thailand. Following their arrival, both the parent and child can extend their stay to one year through the school.

- yes thanks - from what i gather from lots of research and looking at immigration website - an ED visa can be obtained within thailand through official channels although there are some citizens that have to apply in their home country. I also read on an official immigration site that the 500 k needs to be in account for 3 months prior to dependency application. Nothing straight forward. Thanks
the 500 k for 3 months is required in the second year only
1st year you only show 500 k for one month after you have your visa for 90 days, and ready for the school to extend your visa to one year this is proof that you have enough money to live here for 1 year and can pay the school fees
- yes thanks again. I actually did read elsewhere about the one month rule but then came across the 3 month rule on the immigration site which didnt differentiate.
