Question for families.

Two adults, two kids. all British citizens.

We want to do a Ed visa (learn thai) , what visas do the kids fall under? Will they have dependent visas?

When I try search for information, all I get is about putting the kids in school.

Can I have some advice on what the process is for us?

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for an Ed visa in Thailand for learning Thai, British children accompanying their parents cannot obtain Non-O dependent visas if the parents study at private language schools. To keep children legally in Thailand, they must secure a separate visa, and if they attend school, they can apply for a Non-ED visa independently. Some parents may ignore visa rules regarding overstaying due to leniency for minors, but it is illegal and carries risks.

You cannot get Non-O dependents for your children when you are on Non-ED with private Thai language schools. Only possible if you are studying for degrees at a real university.

If you want them to be in Thailand legally, you need to get them a visa. If they go to schools in Thailand, they can apply for Non-ED on their own.

On the other hand, many parents let their children overstay because:

- under 15 yo wouldn't be fined for overstaying

- under 18 yo wouldn't be blacklisted for overstaying

Just penalties are waived for minors, but still overstaying is illegal and they would get overstay stamps on their passports. And once they are on overstaying, it means they are staying in Thailand illegally, and they cannot change their status to legal ones inside Thailand.
