Good morning

My Thai girlfriend is in the uk on a visitors visa,

Looking to take her to Spain for a weekend for the MotoGP in early October.

Believe she will need a visa, any advice on obtaining one would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To travel from the UK to Spain, your Thai girlfriend will need a Schengen visa, which must be applied for in her home country, Thailand. It's advisable to check with the Spanish embassy for requirements and processing times. As she is currently on a UK visitor visa, she may not be able to apply for the Schengen visa from the UK, and it is crucial to ensure her visa circumstances allow for reentry into the UK after a trip abroad.

Reminds me of the good old days when Britain was part of the EU. Insanity. Dumbest move of all time. Each Brexit vote should be forced to submit to weekly lashings

MotoGP is in Thailand the first week in October, might be easier going there

Forget it to hard

uK is not s Schengen country. Within the schengencountries you are free to travel and I believe to Switzerland too. but UK visa is for UK and the UK part of Ireland only
Maya *******
@John *****
also Norway is not schengen it's Scandinavia

Belong to the union there with Denmark Sweden Finland Iceland possible more not sure

But like the Swiss they did not join the EU

Finland joined and actually was the 1st to start euro

I know because I'm citizen a, was there when it all started

But I remember the end of the 80s when Allen sugger or not sure is name big business man. Advertise on British TV promoting the EU...

@Maya ******
Norway IS part of Schengen, always has been. As a citizen, you should certainly be aware of this. A bit embarrassing otherwise Maya.

@Todd ********
didn't know I just thought it was not because they are not in the EU

She needs Shengen Visa to go to Spain. She can apply it at Spain embassy in UK. And if she only has single entry visa for UK, she probably require to apply another visa to go back to UK. Then, she can apply it from UK embassy in Spain. This is the limitation of us, Thai people, who has to apply to visa to almost every country. 🤣

@Nuntakorn ***************
if she has entered the UK on a visitor visa, she can not apply for a Schengen visa in the UK. She will need to return to Thailand and apply there which in this case is not practical.

Just to confirm, your gf definitely requires a Schengen visa to visit Spain. We went to the UK in summer and we had to get a separate Schengen visa in Thailand so she could visit her sister in Germany. It was not an easy process tbh, I don’t know if we messed up saying she was visiting her sister, but they wanted a mountain of information from her and her husband. It might have been better to say we were going on holiday but we were advised the visa would be denied unless we were visiting someone.
Maya *******
Is it possible for UK to ever return to the EU?
Brian ********
@Maya ******
The UK only left the EU on 31 Jan 2020. However, since then, we've successfully sealed bilateral FTAs with Japan, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Australia, New Zealand and made significant progress on a bilateral FTA with India. We've also negotiated our accession to the CPTPP.

o because i spoken to 1 UK friend who really suffer from those new rules and he didn't sound optimistic at all
Sophie *********
@Maya ******
He's right not to be optimistic. It will take a long time to occur, if ever it does. But I think, in the end, we will have to rejoin or face total ruin!

so true 😭😭😭

@Giorgio *****
It's painful to watch. Still, at least we have our Royal Family - who have 28 billion pounds - and our blue passports. Ff's.
Maya *******
@Sophie ********
true i hope so

@Maya ******
The British are labouring under false consciousness to a massive extent, so we'll see!
Graham ******
She probably entered on a single-entry UK visa so if she could leave she wouldn't be allowed back in (or is that your cunning plan?).
Nic ********
@Graham *****
UK visitor visas aren’t single entry, you can leave an re enter as long as its within the original visa dates
Graham ******
@Nic *******
ok, I wasn't aware of that
Andy ***********
Unless she is on leave to enter / remain visa - they will not approve a visa for her . You need to have status where u apply from
Martyn ***********
I'd check on hotels and tickets, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't sold out by now anyway.
Giorgio ******
It was much easier when UK was in Europe .
Darren *******
@Giorgio *****
the UK still is in Europe, we haven't joined another continent
Giorgio ******
@Darren ******
ah ah ah
*****
! I guess I sounded so stupid , using the word Europe instead of CE .5555. I thought UK was from a continent called the mooooon .

Anyway , if people from UK , ever wished to come back inside the CE , I myself would be happy for them if they succeed . Conditions though: they respect the rules, they don't require any privilege !!!

And why not join the common money EURO !

And why not join the Schengen community , it would really help all our friends who have a thai companion girl or boy . Specially the english guy who first ask the question .

Otherwise they can stay on the continent Moooon . LOL .😉
Darren *******
@Giorgio *****
don't worry, the majority still don't want to rejoin the EU
Giorgio ******
@Darren ******
I don't worry I'm sad for all the Uk cityzens who suffer !!! And it's just starting
Giorgio ******
@Darren ******
up to them .I know hundreds of Uk cityzens . They all wished they stayed in the CE. .

You say they don't want to rejoin CE ? 5555 . Because truck drivers enjoin waiting for 3 days at the french border, they love having empty shelves in super markets , they love shortage of toilet paper 🤣.they love not finding employees . They're happy not being able to travel freely all over the european continent .

They love not to be able to settle their company in Europe .they lovee not being able to enjoy the totaly free french health system . It would take pages and pages .... 😭😭😭😭😭
Darren *******
@Giorgio *****
as someone who is currently in the UK, the supermarket shelves are full and there is plenty of toilet paper. Brits can still travel all over the EU without needing visas, the only difference now being a visa is needed to work there. The same with EU nationals coming to the UK.
Kraig *******
@Giorgio *****
not true, UK was never part of Schengen visa and the process is exactly the same 🙄
Giorgio ******
@Kraig ******
yes thankyou I know that ! Too bad we missed you in the Schengen community !❤

Next time maybe 😉
Giorgio ******
I know wI agree with your wrath .😭
Spencer *******
@Giorgio *****
shame on all those who voted to leave. No freedom of movement for British people in Europe anymore. Yeah, that was a great idea.
Giorgio ******
@Spencer ******
I have so many UK friends in Brittany (Fr.) With so many problems to solve since the big mistake made on lies !!!😭😭😭😭😭
Stuart *********
@Spencer ******
don’t see any pictures of buses with “thanks for the 300m a day going into the NHS” going around. Perhaps that was a fallacy.
Spencer *******
@Stuart ********
I don't follow
Stuart *********
@Spencer ******
wasn’t that the marketing part of the leave campaign? We’ll save 300m a day for the NHS. Maybe I’m wrong on figures. Wasn’t there. Took little interest as I couldn’t vote. Been away too long.
Spencer *******
@Stuart ********
Yeah possibly. I think you may be right. People are certainly not better off for leaving. Was a waste of time.
Richard ******
@Giorgio *****
Thanks for rubbing it in!
Richard ******
We'll be back! We might be a bit of a black sheep of the family but we are European!
Giorgio ******
@Richard *****
as I said we miss you in EC ! and in SCHENGEN community 😭
Stuart *********
@Giorgio *****
didn’t make a difference. UK has never been part of the Schengen visa system.
Andy ********
@Stuart ********
it did make a difference because you could apply for a Schengen visa in the UK. Having the UK visa you were 90% there with Schengen. Now she will need to apply in Thailand.
Giorgio ******
@Stuart ********
you're right I forgot about that .

Too bad we miss our UK friends in CE . and we would have welcomed them in The Schengen community .
Ian *********
She would need a Schengen visa which can only be obtained from her own country.
Ian *********
Ea Sy no work around. That’s how it is. I was confronted by this same problem recently. So I opted to going to Dubai and Turkey instead of Europe as those two countries don’t require a visa for Thai nationals.
Ian *********
She would need to apply through the Spanish embassy in Bangkok to obtain her Schengen visa yes.
Dave *******
@Ian ********
pretty sure that for example, even if you have approval for Italy you would still need to apply for Spain.
Didrik *********
@Dave ******
That is wrong. If you have a Schengen visa, you can move freely within Schengen.
Todd *********
Dave *******
@Didrik ********
but it’s not a Schengen visa, it’s a single visa for each country that you need to enter.

I have never seen a Schengen visa, I have seen visa exempt to Schengen countries but never a Schengen visa.
Didrik *********
@Dave ******
A single entry into Schengen. As long as you don't go outside Schengen, you can travel between the Schengen countries. Great Britain is not a Schengen member.
Dave *******
@Didrik ********
ok riddle me this where does one apply for this visa ?
