We are US citizens and are looking to book a trip to Thailand from 3/19-4/22 which would exceed the 30 day visa on arrival. We will be taking side trips to Vietnam and Cambodia but have to go back in to Thailand to catch our flight back to the US. What visa do we obtain?

Thank you for all of the responses. I’ve got the answer I need!😉

TLDR : Answer Summary
As US citizens, you can enter Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days under the visa exemption program. You can also extend your stay by 30 days for a fee at immigration. It's important to note that the visa on arrival is not applicable in your case since you can obtain the exemption stamp upon arrival. However, for your side trips to Vietnam and Cambodia, you will need to secure separate visas for those countries. Make sure to check in advance for requirements regarding travel documentation and boarding passes.

It’s amaze me how rude and nasty some of the responses from expats. Why are you guys living in Thailand with such nasty attitudes. Thai people are nice, you guys pick the wrong place for nastiness. If you don’t like the questions move on , but instead some of you guys just have to be ugly… have a little patience, and a lot of love in your heart🙏🏽

Thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking!

Thai people are so kind and welcoming… nothing like what is being displayed here.

Thank you to everyone else who answered with a clear, straight forward answer.

When we do the research, several answers come up. No better place to get an answer to a question then from people who have recently dealt with the same thing.🙏🏼

Side comment, you should look into the Vietnamese visas well in advance because ours took several days to be sent to our emails. We were in Indonesia when applying for them and I did not know it wasnt instant

You DO need a visa for both Cambodia and Vietnam as a U.S. Citizen, so make sure you read on timing, cost, etc. Don’t apply too early because they will issue them quickly, but don’t apply too late because you can’t enter without. 😊

you can apply for a visa online and on arrival or during your stay but yes you can travel with passport alone for 60 days .. visa go longer but also there are use restrictions from my understanding like so many times a year depending on which one

You don't need / won't get VOA. The current period of visa exemption for American tourists is 60 days at a time.
Steve *******
You are Visa except for 60 days. You can also request. 30 day extension. I think it’s about 1900 Thai baht for an extension.

You need to do more research, if you did it properly you will see that you will get a visa except stamp on arrival NOT A VISA

Or just "search" your question in this group as it's asked 4 or 5 times per day by fools who don't have a clue about the how's and why's of entering Thailand

cos if you read my comment properly you will understand my frustration this question is asked 5 times daily, maybe stupid people shouldn't venture around the world if the don't know the rules and regulations on the country they are entering

It’s 60 days now and you can extend that for 30 more at immigration for 1900 baht
Linhof *********

For Vietnam you'll need to apply for visa ahead of time. They'll want to see your onward boarding pass too before they let you on the flight.
Luna *******
@Jon ******
so when we got here to Thailand yesterday .

From the US when we got to immigration they didn't ask for it ... And we bought them they just asked what we're going to Thailand for we said checking it out for a couple months to find a place and that was it .
Jon *******
@Luna ******
my comment was meant for travel to Vietnam specifically. I know they'll want to see an onward boarding pass.
Luna *******
@Jon ******
oh I see .

You get 60 day visa exemption. No visa on arrival. 🙏
Brandon ************
As a US citizen you cannot get visa on arrival, which is where you apply for and pay for a 15 day visa at the airport.

You can get visa exempt which is currently a 60 day entry stamp, it's not a visa. You'll receive a new 60 day stamp each time you enter Thailand if you don't have a visa.
Amy *********
💯 - no visa needed for them for Thailand
