Does anyone have up to date information about if Thailand is still issuing visas on arrival to United States Citizens? And if they are do we get 30 days or 60 days stay? My visa is up here in Bali in a few weeks but I am thinking if I can stay in Thailand for at least 2 months while this unfolds I might head there before they close the borders to have 2 months of solid visa time sorted... Once i get there I plan to self quarrntine for a while. Any info or suggestions? Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
As of now, US citizens cannot obtain a visa on arrival in Thailand. They may enter with a 30-day visa exemption, which can be extended for an additional 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht. Alternatively, US citizens are advised to apply for a single-entry tourist visa from a Thai consulate in Bali, allowing a 60-day stay with a possible 30-day extension.

One last question is, have they shut down any travel within Thailand to the southern islands? Here in Bali today they just closed all access to the Gili Islands... Heard anything like this?

Unfortunately that is NOT a thai visa question sorry. post it on a f/b group related to the area in thailand :/

So the takeaway is as of now I can arrive with my US passport and no prearranged visa and be cleared for 30 days, then extend within the country for another 30 days. Priceless information. Thank you! I probably wont be able leave here for another 3 days or so so I would love any updates in thw meantime if this changes.

Here's a thought, why not BUY a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in Denpasar Bali BEFORE you wing your way here? That would get you stamped in for 60 days and then you could extend that for 30 more days for 1900baht once you're here.

yes Ive had the same thought and trying to discern if its actually necessary or not and also how long that process would take. Since things keep changing everyday it seems necessary to act fast and i wouldnt want my visa tied up in Denpasar for a long time. Do you know how long it would take to get that done here?

There is no visa on arrival for US citizens.

IF you don't buy a visa from a thai consulate BEFORE you come here you as a US passport holder will get stamped in on what's called a 30 day visa exempt entry. You can extend that ONCE for 30 more days at the immigration office where you stay for 1900baht.

thank you but i am confused. If i just show up with my passport i will be given a 30 day visa exempt entry which can be extended for 30 days? And they are currently still issuing these to US citizens? But its not called a visa on arrival, instead its called a visa exemption? Just to be clear that I am understanding you correctly.
