What are the requirements for returning to Thailand and applying for a Non-O visa after an expired visa and Covid insurance?

Hello, if I could kindly ask a few questions please.

I have travelled back to Australia in July 2021 for a few months or just a little longer. Before coming back I was/am on a lease, where my wife and son still are. I had previously completed a Tm30 for that. I was on a 1 yr extension of stay based on marriage as well as having the required Covid insurance.

My visa has since expired as well as the Covid insurance since arriving back in Aus.

I am pre planning and would like to ask.

.

(1) - Do I need to do another Tm30 when I return as I previously done so and lease still current?

.

(2) - I apply just for the 90 days NonO visa then afterwards apply for the extension of stay based on marriage?

.

(3) - Do I need to purchase a 1yr Covid insurance or can I just apply for a 90 day policy giving I will be then applying for the extension of stay, or will they then ask me to apply for a 12mth policy?

I think that is it, other than the COE, Aus travel approval on my end in which I can sort.

Any info would be much appreciated once again

Kind regards

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about returning to Thailand after an extended stay in Australia. They have questions regarding the need for a new TM30 form upon arrival, the process of applying for a 90-day Non-O visa followed by an extension based on marriage, and the necessary Covid insurance duration. Responses indicate that a new TM30 is generally needed on return, applying for the 90-day Non-O visa is advisable, and a short-term Covid insurance policy (90 days) suffices, although a longer policy is recommended for safety.

1...yes...new TM 30 on arrival into your Thai residence.

2...yes ...new Non O as married to Thai

3...90 days insurance will get you the CoE to enter Thailand from the Thai Embassy.

But unless you have other health insurance it's best to get a one year policy of real health insurance ...especially during these COVID times.

Make sure you are fully vaccinated upon arrival...

To enter the Phuket sandbox

Or must do ASQ quarantine in Bangkok or Pattaya.

And we are seeing some added requirement for fully vaccinated to travel inside Thailand and entering some provinces cities and villages in Thailand.

And as you are in Australia you may wish to follow this helpful forum of Aussie's seeking to return to Thailand

You'd more likely need to submit a new TM30 for your application for your new extension because you will have a different number of TM6 (arrival/departure card).

If there is a sandbox, or quarantine, the hotel will do it for you automatically when you arrive. Some immigration offices require you to do a TM30 when you arrive at your final location, others don’t.

> I apply just for the 90 days NonO visa then afterwards apply for the extension of stay based on marriage?

Yes, you can do that. Different immigration offices have different policies on how soon you can apply for the one year extension of stay based on marriage. Some require 30 days remaining, others 45 days, and Bangkok requires no less then three days remaining.

>Do I need to purchase a 1yr Covid insurance or can I just apply for a 90 day policy giving I will be then applying for the extension of stay, or will they then ask me to apply for a 12mth policy?

You need insurance for the length of your visa. A single entry Non-O visa allows you to stay for 90 days, so the policy needs to cover 90 days.

Hi Benjamin, thanks for the quick reply. Got it! Just if I enter on the 90day visa I need to cover the covid insurance for that period, ok. But when that elapse and then I am applying for the 1yr extension of stay based on marriage, will they make me apply for Covid insurance again as part of that application?

There is no COVID-19 insurance requiremetn for a one year extension of stay based on marriage. Don't forget, the immigration office and the consulates are managed by TWO different organizations that don't communicate with each other

it would be interesting to know from you if the Immigration officer last year insisted you to have a one-year Covid19 health insurance for the marriage extension, or if you got one for yourself without any pressure from Immigration . . . . As far as we all know, there is no requirement for this.

Hi Greg, I bought one before I left Australia. When I purchased the 90 Visa. I assumed that I needed a 1 yr covid insurance knowing I was then going to apply for an extension of stay on marriage. But from what the guys are saying on here. Only need to buy a 90 visa from Aus, the covid insurance for that 90 day visa. Then when 90 days is up and I apply for the extension of stay that this will not be required or asked for.

@Jak ******
you are required to have covid insurance for the length of time you're going to get stamped in for SO if you're comin' in on a 90 day Non-O visa you need 90 days, if you're coming in on a visa exempt you need 45 days and if you're comin' in on a tourist visa you need 60 days.
