What should we do if our flight gets cancelled just before our COVID visa expires in Thailand?

Hello. We were originally on a non-immigrant visa then had to convert to a COVID visa which will expire on 8 Aug, Sunday. Our flight out of Thailand is on 7 August, Saturday. So my questions are, in case our flight gets cancelled on the last minute, do we get a penalty for overstay if we renew on 9 August, Monday? Or best to renew our visas on 6 August, Friday, just to be on the safe side?

We process our visas in Samut Prakarn immigration office.

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the risk of overstaying their COVID visa if their flight is cancelled just before the visa expiration and seeks advice on whether to renew their visa before the expiration date. A comment suggests that if the visa expires when the immigration office is closed, the next business day can be used for renewal, and any overstay penalties will likely be waived.

If your current extension of stay expires on a day when the immigration office is closed, you can apply the next business day. You will get a stamp in the passport saying something about being on overstay, but the fine waived.
