Hi! Don’t you know, would I have any problems with the following:

My COVID visa expires on May 26, if my flight out from Chiang Mai is on May 26, but because of long transfer in Bangkok I will actually leave the country only at 3am in the morning on May 27. Then would this be a problem?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about potential problems regarding overstaying their COVID visa, which expires on May 26, while their flight departs on May 27 at 3 am. The community provided insights indicating that as long as they clear immigration before midnight on May 26, there shouldn't be any issues. Multiple responses clarified that overstays under 24 hours are generally not penalized if the person is leaving by air.

Overstays under 24 hours don't get fined and aren't a problem. If you clear immigration before midnight then you wouldn't be fine anyway, I wouldn't worry about it.

This looks like a codeshare, so you should clear immigration at CNX.

I was a day late out of the country a few years back and I was expecting a fine but they let me through, not sure if them days have changed?

@Ash *******
To my knowledge it hasn't changed; they are willing to overlook one day overstay if you are leaving by air.

As long as you are airside you will be fine.

My advice would be to get another 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. If your flight is delayed, you'll be able to stay for another 60 days.

if your visa expires at midnight, I would hope you'd check in to your departure airport for leaving Thailand, BKK

As far as I understand I don’t need to check in in Bkk already, as this is gonna be just a transfer stop. The check in will be in Chiang Mai where my flight starts. Or did I understand you wrong?

Ahh, that makes sense, check in before midnight to start your journey

Does Chiang Mai has customs and immigration? I would think you'd want to clear those (C&I) before midnight?

I was gonna say yes, but then understood that it’s better to check it first 🙂 Thanks for the idea!

If you clear immigration before midnight it's no problem at all
