What should I do about my visa overstay in Thailand when my flight is booked for after the expiry date?

Good Evening,

Hoping to get an advice…

My visa expires on the 19/6, the earliest I could get a ticket back to Melbourne (Aus) is for the 30th. So 11 days of overstaying. Children’s school filled out the forms for a full year renewal. It’s not an option for me bc a) moving back for good; b) dont have the 500k on my account (plus it was meant to b there 3 mnths ahead anyway)). Aus Embassy advised to call 1178 Thai Immigration who advised me to apply for a Covid Visa Extension. Seems to b a straight forward process ( even though they need a letter from Aus embassy and they said they’ve been told by Thai Imm that its no longer needed😐 )

The Covid 19 visa extension site seems to b only in Thai and kids school has been trying to book the appointment but their website is down… for 3 days already.

Travelling with 4 kids: 16, 12, 6, 1. The 1 yo never had a visa. As far as I understand kids under 15 do not have to pay the overstay fine. That leaves my son and myself, 500baht a day, which is not the issue. My worry is that it’s illegal…right? Especially the 11 days!

What are my options? Can’t miss that flight!🥵

Thank you 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat is facing an 11-day overstay due to a delayed flight back to Australia and is seeking advice on options. They are considering a Covid Visa Extension but facing challenges with the application process, especially given their children’s situation and the requirements for the extension. A suggestion was made to visit the local immigration office to apply for the extension before the visa expires.

Go to the local immigration office to apply for a covid extension before your current stamps are up. It's a not difficult process. Depends on the immigration office you may need a copy of email or web site page of your embassy saying they don't issue that letter

Anybody including children under 15 is definitely required a visa or extension to stay in Thailand legally.

Children under 15 are just not fined for overstay nor put on the blacklist as you understand.

All of you except one with extension from Rayong, What you can do is:

1. Get a termination letter from your 16yo school saying that your child will finish studying xx date.

2. Go to Chaengwattana (not MTT) on or before your stamps expired

3. Apply for cancellation of current extensions of you and your child(ren)

4. Apply for Covid extension at the same counter for each

You NEED to go to the Rayong immigration office to cancel the extension as a student that was issued at Rayong. Because you need to cancel children's extensions based on studying first to be able to apply for a Covid extension. The covid extension can be applied for at Chaengwattna once the current one was clearly canceled.

For your 6 yo, you also can let him overstay as he wouldn't be fined for that upon departure. But he would get an overstay stamp on his passport. (so as you 1 yo, too)

12 yo had hers extended till dec. That leaves my 16yo, 6yo and myself. Thai Immigration said that even though kids under 18 don’t need a visa, if they initially had one MUST do the Covid extension too.

hi, thai immigration told me that only muang thong thani office does those visas. They told me that appointment is required. Its all very confusing, my visa and my 6yo’s was done at chang wattana, my son’s at rayong ( school did it due to their year levels). Thai immigration said there is only 1 way and it’s through the online app…
