Good morning, my friend called and told me when she got back from holiday the school where she was working is not renewing her contract.

Her contract finished at the end of April.

Would I be right in thinking the school should cancel her work permit?

But she may need a termination letter to hand into the ministry of employment?

Her current Non B finishes on the 24 June, but she can stay on that till the end date, she will then leave and come back on a 30 day exempt which she can extend? She is from the Philippines

TLDR : Answer Summary
Your friend's school is required to cancel her work permit since they are not renewing her contract. She will need to obtain a termination letter from the school to present to the Ministry of Labour when she cancels her work permit. Although her Non-B visa is valid until June 24, she should not stay beyond the end of April. It’s advisable for her to visit the immigration office with paperwork from her school to cancel her extension and manage her status properly.

If she's on an extension she CANNOT stay until it runs out. She takes paperwork from her school stating her contract is not being renewed to the immigration office and cancels the current extension. She can go before the end of April and they'll cancel the extension and stamp her in until that date.

She also needs to go cancel the work permit at the Ministry of Labour. I wouldn't tust the school to do it.

, when she was overseas she probably had a re-entry permit or she wouldn't have been stamped back into the country until her extension expires. the work permit doesn't cancel because you're out of the country, it runs until it expires <- which isn't canceling it, or until you go and cancel it

Sorry one more thing. Her contract finished April, but she was overseas, stamped in on her extension, she is not on an overstay I assume till her work permit is cancelled? Which will be today, would that be right, I'm not sure considering I don't work here

That makes sense, I told her to into the school today and get the relevant paperwork, and inform the ministry of labour and immigration.

Thank you for clearing that Tod

Is she on the original Non B visa or on an extension from the immigration office

I would think it's an extension as she has worked there for 2 years
